Talk to me about baby food...

I'm pretty sure DS is tired of eating pureed baby food all the time.  In the last few weeks, he has started eating regular bananas (not mashed up, just straight out of the peel).  He really enjoys it now that he has his two bottom teeth.

He's also not super keen on vegetables.  He'll eat sweet potatoes and carrots w/ apples mixed in and likes butternut squash pretty well.  Nothing green (though i've only tried peas).  The lady who runs my produce co-op suggested mixing veggies w/ white (mashed/pureed) potatoes - especially greens.  She said she likes using spinach mixed w/ potatoes.

Anyway... I'm curious what your suggestions are.  I'm thinking about cutting big chunks of veggies for my next round of baby food and letting him eat those, right?  More of a BLW style? Do you cut the pieces of vegetable and then steam them? Or bake them?  How do you know what size? How well do they keep after cooking either in the fridge or in the freezer?

Re: Talk to me about baby food...

  • my lo does about half and half feeding himself vs me feeding him.

    he will eat:

cut up cooked (baked) sweet potato, steamed carrot bites, green beans (hated peas), mandarin oranges, bread, graham crackers, blueberries (started out with halves, now he eats whole ones), freeze dried apple bits, cheese bits, banana, pears.

I have followed the wholesomebabyfood.com guide for age appropriate foods.

I just give him really small bites and see how he handles it, if he shoves bunch in his mouth without a problem, I make the pieces bigger.

He is funny about textures that he touches, so some days, he will eat the larger chunked foods, but not want to touch them (like bananas, sweet potatoes)
