What bottles did you try that you LOVE/HATE?

I've posted something similar on 3-6mo, but curious what the MoMs on this board prefered...

Will be pumping as long as possible, then switching to formula (or whatever is needed... staying very open to whatever my girls need)

DH & I are having the hardest time choosing bottles.  They all claim to do the same things (ie. reduce colic and gas), so not sure which ones might be the best option... and was curious which ones you had luck with or hated.

 Thank you so much!

Re: What bottles did you try that you LOVE/HATE?

  • I bought Avent bottles first and hated them.  They leaked all the time and they were just not right for us.  After DS developed reflux we had a few ppl tell us to switch to Dr.Browns.  Not only did they not leak, but I really think they did help with his reflux, so that would be my recc.
  • We use Dr. Browns.  Always have.

  • We tried the Drop Ins, hated them.  Dr Browns are the best!!!
  • We've done the Vent Aires and Avents, liked them both, the Vent Aires just had the added extra parts to wash and x2 it wasn't worth it, thats the reason we didn't go with the Dr. Browns. Both of my kids had reflux and did just fine on Avents. We still use them, they will leak if they are overtighened and/or the nipples aren't lined up right, but for us, it isn't a big deal.

I would get several different brands to start off with and see which ones they take, look at buying the bigger sizes such as the 9oz bottles vs. the 4oz bottles. You will get much more use out of just buying the bigger bottles than buying the 4oz and needing to get bigger ones later on.

  • used Avent with DS1 b/c i had a ton of them from friends - HATED THEM. Leaked no matter what we did with them- drove us absolutly nuts.

We used the MAM bottles with the twins and LOVED them - no leaking, worked well to reduce gas/colic, etc.... and they are cute.

almost all bottles are BPA free these days- so that's good - before when i had DS1 nothing was known about that.

  • Dr Brown and adiri are working for us!
  • I've only tried Dr. Brown's but love them - they work great, no leaks!

  • I have only ever used Dr. Browns and we love them!  No issues at all with them.
  • We were leaning toward Dr. Browns and I'm thinking that may be where we start and then confirm what the girls like - thanks ladies!

  • I had a bunch of Playtex Vent Airs and they SUCKED.  If the bottom stopper wasn't in just right, they'd leak all over.  We now use Evenflo (the cheapies, I think they're $3 for a 3 pack at BRU) and are very happy with them.  We've never had a single problem, and if we lose one or one gets left in the car WAY too long, it's not that big of a loss.  IMO, start with a cheap bottle, they may work just fine for you, if you need to invest in a more expensive bottle, then you haven't lost too much $$$.  Just my 2 cents.
  • We love Dr. Brown's.  Have used them with all our kids after they helped our 1st with tummy troubles!

  • We used the playtex drop ins... loved em.
  • Also switched very quickly from Avent to Dr. Brown's because of the leak issue. Also, very few have preemie nipples, which mine did better on early on.

I only tried Dr Browns and love, loved them.  There are lots of parts to clean but, just get a dishwasher basket or two and wash everything in there then, put on a drying rack to dry.

I'll be using Dr Browns again.

  • We've been using playtex vent air with no issues,  we also like them b/c 3 of our boys take other hospital nipples and they fit with no leakage.

  • we use born free and they are the only ones that work for us.  Advent we tried first and got terrible gas, then tried playtex and actually this week I bought seom of the new tommy tippee because I needed a set for an inlaws house - don't ask me why I even tried a different brand, but DS did great with them DD got terriblw gas.  They were cute and color coded though which hels us since DD and DS are on two different formulas.  I can't chance it though with the gas!

We bought the Avent, they leaked.

Went to Dr.Browns and loved them. They have screw on caps available for storage (would put milk in them in the fridge) and then you put all the parts in it when you are ready to feed the bottle.

I loved the dr browns and would suggest to have at least one days worth of bottles so that you only  have to wash once a day.

We went back to the Avent when they were older and didn't have problems with the gas.

Don't worry about buying the 4oz bottles, you will eventually need the 8oz, so only buy the 8oz. You can easily put 4oz in an 8oz bottle.

  • We used dr Browns the first time around. They worked great, but the parts were REALLY annoying to clean. This time we're using MAM, and LOVE them. No leaks, helps with colic/gas, cute, easy to clean. You can buy one and try it out.
  • am i the only one that didn't get a leak with avent?  as long as you don't tighten them too much you're golden.
