as much as I want to CD our NB

DH and I have decided not to buy a NB stash.  DS was 10lbs, and was 12lbs by about 1 month.  We decided that buying a separate stash just isn't worth it.

So, unless I start measuring small and there is some indication that I won't be havng another 10lb-er or if I find a steal on NB dipes, we won't CD from day 1.

I'm pretty sad about this decision, I really wanted to be up to my ears in NB fluff and I'm not looking forward to the garbage but my head says it's the right decision for now.

Re: as much as I want to CD our NB

  • I understand.  We were new to CDing when I was prego with #2 and the nb stage was intimidating.  #2 was 9 lbs 5 oz at birth, and I think we were CDing by 3 weeks so it worked out fine for us.  I don't have any regrets.

Yeah, DS was 10#1oz, so I'm hoping we'll still be CDing by 2-3 weeks with this one...  It just doesn't make sense to buy a NB stash for 2-3 weeks for us.

  • If you have some BG they may almost fit at the smallest stage.   Don't some places to a rental for NB CDs and once you return them it is only like $20 or $30 to CD your NB.  I remember seeing this after I bought out NB diapers but don't remember what store sorry.

  • You could do the newborn trial from Jillian's Drawers. You'd have the dipes for three weeks, so if you had another big baby/fast grower, you'd pretty much be good. :) And if you had a smaller baby, you'd have a chance to buy stuff!
  • I'm in Canada, so unfortunately Jillian's Drawers isn't really an option as far as I know.  I could check our "local" (read: 50 miles away) diaper service to see if they have newborn rental packages- I didn't think of that... thanks ladies :)

Our stash is almost 100% BG 3.0s, so I suspect #2 will be in them qretty quick, even if they are bulky.

  • you could also pick up a few duo diapers - they should fit for a while past the nb stage as well as early on?  sometimes you can find them used on spots too which is what i've done.  obviously not enough for a whole stash of them but maybe to let you rotate some in now and again until the bg's fit too??

I have a Duo wrap and it fit my 7lb baby!

for dd, i have prefolds/covers (duo size 1, small, and os), fitteds (gm & thirsties small), aios (bg s).  the prefolds i have are oso cozy size 1, so they aren't specifically for newborns.

i'm planning on trying to cd as soon as we get home from the hospital.  ds was 9lbs 15oz and i didn't want to waste money on a nb stash either.  i'll let you know what works for us.

I'd really appreciate that! Thanks :)

  • Can you maybe get a cover to use the disposables? I agree that a nb stash wouldn't really be worth the cost...
