Breech! Version Info?

Well I found out at dr's yesterday that baby is breech.  Her head is up at my ribs.  I'm 36 weeks along, so he asked if I wanted to try having a version.  It will be next week.  The ultrasound is Monday.  I'm going to check out spinning babies website to see if there is any way to try to motivate her to move head down on her own over the weekend.  Does anyone have any suggestions for that?

Second of all, I am kind of nervous about the version as I hear it hurts and doesn't always work.  I have also heard that it could induce labor or complications could arise warranting a c-section.  Anyone care to share their experiences with having a version done?

Any help is appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: Breech! Version Info?

  • I had a breech baby but they didn't find out until I was 39 wks and my water broke, so I had a C-section. I'm trying for a VBAC now and if I were in your shoes, I'd try the version. Your options are limited in terms of inducing and going "overdue" after you have a C-section, so I would do what I could to avoid one. That said, the actual procedue wasn't that bad, especially if it's planned and you're not laboring and not sleeping for hours.

  • My DD was breech and I had a scheduled C-section. I wasnt interested in a version due to the risks vs a planned c/s, so I cant help there but I wanted to tell you that if you end up going the planned c/s route, be prepared a head of time. Google recovery tips and how c-section is done to speed up your recovery. I had a great experience and will not consider a VBAC. Good luck with your decision!

  • I have thought about this a lot. They're not even checking position yet, but I plan to try a bunch of things and will definitely have a version if needed. There's a list here:

Granted, many of these are likely old wives tales, but other than the version (which I would do) and chiropractic (which I wouldn't) none would have any risks associated with them.

  • I had a successful version at 36 weeks.  It really wasn't that big of a deal - more uncomfortable than painful.  It's true that it doesn't always work, only about 50% of the time.  The risks are low, but they are there which is why versions are performed in L&D in case something goes wrong.  In my OB's 20 years of practice, he's never encountered any problems other than it just won't work.  I know I was lucky, but the whole thing took 5 minutes and she flipped.  Good luck with your decision!
  • Thanks ladies...  I am really hoping this works!  I'm just nervous about it.  He said there is still some room in there for her to move around.
