Freezer Defrosted

Our freezer (the one attached to the fridge) is no longer keeping foods frozen.  It has something to do with the condenser coils.  We got a stand alone freezer but when I started moving things I noticed most of it (especially what was in the door) has defrosted most of the way.

What do I do?  It is currently in the new freezer refreezing.  Do I need to toss it?  Refreeze it?  Or cook it?

We have to unplug the fridge for 24 hours for the coils to defrost and then we can put everything back in.

Remember the lady that lived with only a cooler for a fridge?  I get to be her for 24 hours!

Re: Freezer Defrosted

  • If it defrosted it needs to be cooked asap and then can be frozen once it's prepared. Sorry.

Crying This is what I was afraid of.  The chickens will get the veges and fruits.  I just dont have time to prep everything.  Hopefully I can save the better meats or my dogs might be eating raw for a few days!

This happened to us, except it was our deep freezer and I didnt' notice until everything was pretty well fully thawed and beyond where it could be cooked. Sucked big time. The composter got all the formerly frozen veggies. Thankfully, we were in the middle of eating up our stocked up meat b/c we're moving to more naturally raised meat, so not too much of that spoiled. But some of my Amy's frozen meals that I take into work for lunch did- that was sad.
