1st Trimester

Does anyone know a specific number of calories we need?

I know that after the 1st trimeste, you need to eat 300 extra a day, but has anyone heard a total for each day?  The reason I ask is that we got our BFP in the middle of me trying to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight from #1.  Of course, that is out the window, but I really don't want to gain any more than I have too, since I am starting out a little high.  I had been eating 1300-1500 calories a day and have been losing weight slowly.  I'm guessing that this isn't enough to have a healthy baby?  Is 1800-1900 still too little when you are pregnant?  Anyone know?

  • The number of calories you need will be unique to you as it needs to take into account your height, weight, and level of activity.

This website will help you calculate what you need each day to maintain your weight.  Add 300 to that for second trimester intake.

    Good luck!

  • I was wondering this too. Like what is the minimum amount we need? I was dieting/ losing weight as well before BFP.

But I'm also not worried with the amount of carbs I've been eating to help this nausea! :)

I've been on a diet since...well HS....and I had no idea what I should be aiming for.  Its run by Sparkspeople...so its free...and I've really been having a great time with it.

    Hope that helps!Smile

With DD, I was super sick and lost 20lbs first tri; I was really worried about the baby, and she told me the baby only needs 300 calories a day. As far as moms..I agree with above answers that it depends.
