RP from eco: hybrid CD systems

Hi, I'm in my third tri and we've been looking for a eco-friendly but practical CD system.  I apologize in advance as I don't know the acronyms or proper names.  We both work full time and have busy lives so a cloth outer shell and a biodegradable insert would be the most ideal for us.

I've looked into and seen in person the G Diapers and GrowVia systems.  I'd be grateful for some recommendations of other brands based on our needs above.

Thanks!

I have the GroBaby (which are essential the GroVia- the company changed their name). We don't use the biodegradable inserts just b/c using cloth is so much easier for us- but we have a pack available if we want them. I'm curious to see if they've revamped the GroVia's- I know a lot of people had issue with the disposable insert b/c the sticky backing would stick to the diaper shell. But, I like my grobaby diapers.
  • The Flip diaper system also has bio inserts

The only problem with these is that the bio inserts usually don't have elastic around the edges, so they aren't always so great at containing BF poo.  The covers will do it, but they can get poop all over them so you'd need to change them.

  • I tried the G diapers & hated them. They leaked constantly, fit like crap, & if they didn't leak the cover would get soiled so I had to wash them almost every change anyway. It was actually way easier to do full cloth. You're already having to laundry if you're using a hybrid system anyway, kwim?

I haven't tired GrowVia but I've heard its better than g diapers. Maybe by a few with both the cloth & biodegradable insert & see if you like them. A cheap & easy option is also a trifolded prefold in a cover. We would rotate 2 covers throughout the day & bought enough so we only have to wash every 3 days. AIOs (all in ones) are easy too - just as easy as sposies. Pockets would be easy for night if you can get the absorbency right.

I have tried all of the hybrids and I agree with the PPs - all of my blowouts/leaks happen with crappy 'sposie inserts. Namely: gdiaper and flip.

The grovia are FANTASTIC. double leg gussets and they stay in place even if you don't use the sticky. I even use them with other shells (I'm a rebel, what can I say? I've even been known to stick the FB insert into the bummis or thirsties shell when we're hanging out. It's trimmer and we EC :-) )

This. I use some WAHM inserts and some i made myself as well as the ones that come with the GroBaby/GroVia.

  • We use g-diapers part-time (I work and DC won't do them).  I don't have any other brands to rec but I do like the g's!

  • I like gdiapers.  I just started with them so I don't have a ton of experience.  However, I'm using them with cloth insert but I'm thinking the biodegradable one will be good for when we're out.  I haven't had any leaking with the cloth insert.  It hasn't even leaked from the insert onto the inner shell.
