Looking to buy a crossover or SUV

If you have one of these types of cars which one do you have? What do you like or dislike about it? With the twins coming we need a bigger car so we are looking at a few brands with the GMC Acadia being our lead choice right now but we are still deciding. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. =)

Re: Looking to buy a crossover or SUV

  • I just got a Nissan Rogue.  I love it so far.  Cute, gets great gas mileage, and on the cheaper side compared to competitors.

Now that I have it I hope that the trunk is big enough for a double stroller.

  • We have a Jeep Compass which is crossover size.  With two infant seats and a stroller we have NO room for anything else

I don't have a crossover (yet) b/c I have to wait until my current SUV dies first. But my ultimate favorite crossover is the Buick Enclave. But it's luxury so used is my only option. The GMC Acadia is a sister to that car so if I couldn't find an affordable Enclave I'd get that. I think the Chevy Traverse is even cheaper and that has a 3rd row seat too.
  • We're about to pull the trigger on a GMC Acadia.  Also, need 3 rows.  The only thing I haven't checked is if my double stroller will fit and it arrives tomorrow, so I'll check before I sign.
  • We got a used 08 Toyota Highlander, which has a fold down third row seat, fits the Kolcraft twin stroller with a little extra room and.. well, those were our requirements, and we wanted a Toyota/Honda/Nissan and this got great reviews and had the largest cargo space in its class. good luck!

  • We LOVE our Kia Rondo, which is a crossover! Plenty of room for our twins and all their stuff (double stroller, booster seats which we keep with us in the car just in case, groceries, luggage for week-long road trips, etc.) yet small enough to still be very maneuverable. Decent gas mileage (esp. compared to an SUV or minivan), five-year or 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Nothing we don't really like about it.

  • We are looking into getting an Acadia too, I love them. My brother has three small children and they just got a chevy traverse. It is very similar to the Acadia and they seem to have plenty of space in theirs.

  • we have the dodge journey - it is available with the 3rd row fold down seat (which we didn't get and we really like it (but it is for sure a budget priced crossover...but nice enough)...there is plenty of trunk space even with our double stroller in there...but I am not sure how much room their would be with the third seat...
  • We just bought a Buick Enclave. We wanted captain's chairs for the middle row rather than the bench. This was for easier access to the 3rd row with the carseats installed in the chairs. you can easily get the the back by going in between the 2 chairs.
  • We're Honda fans and just bought the Pilot last month.

I love it.  It has three rows, with small trunk space behind it.  But the third row is 60/40, so if you are only using it for one child in the back, you can increase your trunk space and fold down part of the seat.

We also looked at the Toyota Highlander, but it didn't offer the 60/40 option.

If I recall, the Traverse, Pilot and Highlander were the 3 mid-size SUVs that Consumer Reports recommended.  The Traverse was significantly higher, and I couldn't see spending that on a Chevrolet.

  • Just lurking from another board, not a MoM but I love my Expedition. I have a 5yo SD and 3 dogs (2 medium-size and 1 large) and we all fit comfortably. I wanted something that we can fit our two phantom kids, too.
