1st Trimester

doctor question

I have been noticing that alot of you have already had doctors appointments and ultrasounds, but I am 5weeks and my doctor will not see me until I am 11weeks also I basically had to talk them into doing an ultrasound at 11weeks and still doing one at 20weeks is this typical or should I start looking for a new doctor. Thanks

Re: doctor question

  • 11 weeks is a long wait. MOST docs see you @ 8 weeks. I would ask for this is you're somewhat attached to your doc, otherwise, go elsewhere! Why not?

  • I agree with DxieChick!! 11 weeks is a long wait, especially if this is your first.  I would switch or ask the Dr. (if u like them) can you have one sooner!
  • I know a lot of Doctors make patients wait until around 12 weeks.  If you are not comfortable with that, then look for other possible doctors.  I am a control freak so I would have a hard time waiting 12 weeks, but then again, good doctors are a great find.  You have to weigh your options I guess.  Good luck mama.

@ Robs 867, that last pic is TOO CUTE!!!!

  • Yeah, I could not wait until 11 weeks. My doctor has me going in at 8 weeks and I'm having trouble being patient for that!
  • Wow...11 weeks!?  I have my first appointment at 5 weeks....with DD I had my first appt at 4.  I think it just varies with each doctor/practice.

Thank you!  That was our first attempt at solids.  She is not a fan of oatmeal.

  • My doctor sees you between 8-11 weeks. They had open spots right before 9 weeks so that's when I'm going.

11 weeks is pretty normal. They had me come in for a urine test just to confirm when I first tested. I had my first OB appt at 10 weeks...ended up getting an u/s at 11 weeks because they couldn't hear the heartbeat. The same exact thing happened with my first pregnancy. I'm getting the NT scan this time around @ 13 weeks, otherwise my only other u/s would be the big one at 19-20 weeks.

  • My first MW didn't see anyone until around 10 weeks.  My MW for this pregnancy is seeing me tomorrow.  If differs a lot.  There's really no difference between 8 weeks and 11 weeks.  I think you should just wait if you like your dr and this is the only reason you had to switch.

Also, it's totally normal to only have one ultrasound at 20 weeks unless there's a medical reason for more, and most insurance will only pay for one (again, unless there's a medical reason for more).

  • With DS first appointment and u/s were at 9 weeks.

With this pregnancy first appointment and u/s was at 8 weeks.

I will be getting a total of three ultrasounds, one in each tri.

  • 11 wks is a little on the long side...only a little.

Please be remembering that many of the ladies have appointments much sooner because of being high risk for whatever reason, or prior miscarriages/pregnancy losses.

Really, I'd love to just wait until 8 or even 11 weeks like normal pregnant ladies.

  • My doctor didn't see me until 12 weeks with my first pregnancy.  Had I of not had previous complications, that's how it would continue with future pregnancies.

And with my first one, I only had one u/s, again that's typical in low risk pregnancies.

Well said. I was seen earlier, because I had a miscarriage at week 5 and fibroids, plus I am a worry wart! Keep us posted!

  • My Dr's office usually sets first prenatel appts between 9-11wks. You only get seen earlier if you have a history of loss or other condition that makes you high risk. I have multiple issues and will have my 3rd (yes 3rd) ultrasound at 11 1/2 wks.
