Cooking on Sunday for upcoming week?

Does anyone cook their week's worth of meals ahead of time on Sundays?  I'm looking for tips/ideas/recipes to help with this!  By the time I get home with DS after work it's between 5:30 and 6:00.  And now that he's getting older and more and more active it's tough to prepare dinner between playing, feeding, changing and bathing!  Help!!!  TIA  :-)

  • Sometimes I will prep stuff but then cook it on the day we're going to eat it.  Or prep a couple of meals to dump into the crock pot in the mornings.

  • I don't cook on Sunday's, but I do make a menu for the week and get anything out the night before so it is ready.  I tend to stick with easy 20 minute type meals during the week.  DH and I switch on and off with the cooking.  While one cooks the other feeds and plays with DS and then DS gets some finger foods in his highchair while we eat.

  • Yes!  Great time saver.  I brown a lot of ground turkey (or could do beef) and then use for multiple quick meals during the week: tacos, pasta and veggies, beans and tomato sauce with chilis for "chili".  Another option-chicken and salsa in slow cooker all day for tacos, nacos, quesadillas, etc.

  • We don't do all the cooking on Sunday, but when we can throughout the week and make extras. I've had success freezing these recipes:

https://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Baked-Potato-Skins/Detail.aspx (leave off the toppings when you freeze them, but you can brush them with the oil rub)

    https://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Oven-Fresh-Seasoned-Potato-Wedges/Detail.aspx

https://allrecipes.com//Recipe/Real-Italian-Calzones/Detail.aspx (I use the dough recipe, and add our own fillings)

Any kind of lasagna or cassorole usually freeze really well. I put mine in the fridge overnight, and then cut them into pieces the next day and freeze individually wrapped in plastic wrap then tin foil. I've heard not to freeze milk based soups, but I've done mac and cheese just fine. It's fantastic to be able to come home and start to thaw homemade food for dinner. At least it saves a ton of time every once in a while! GL :)

  • Thank you all so much!  These are all great ideas!  Just wanna free up extra time to have with DS.  DH works 2nd shift so it's just LO and me!
