Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Who feeds bottle right before naps/sleep?

All those sleep books say to follow that schedule: Sleep, Eat, Play...

I've found my baby sleeps much better/longer if I do Eat, Sleep, Play...Of course, i do offer some milk at some point after she wakes up, in case she's a bit thirsty- she'll usually just have a couple of sips... She likes to be full before sleeping, I guess...So do I... :D

Re: Who feeds bottle right before naps/sleep?

  • I generally feed him every 3 hours...sometimes it is before a nap and other times it's when he wakes up.  He still will only nap for 40 minutes either way. haha

  • The only time DD gets a bottle before she goes to sleep is right before bedtime.  Otherwise we follow EASY.
  • In the morning, we eat, play, then nap.  In the afternoon, we play, eat, nap.  :)  That way I at least get one good long nap in.  :)

I still do. In the morning she gets a bottle then about an 1 1/2 hr later she has cereal then nap. Lunch she gets veggie, fruit and finger foods. Right before her afternoon nap (about 2hrs after lunch) she gets a full bottle then right to sleep. Dinner she gets oatmeal plus a little of whatever we are having. Then right before bed (about an 1 1/2 hr after dinner) she gets a full bottle then right to bed.

  • I guess what I want to know is - is there something "wrong" with feeding right before naps/sleep time? I know very few people do it, so I'm wondering what I'm missing... Doesn't it make more sense that baby will sleep better if full and not waking up to eat/hungry?

    TIA!

  • I do it your way too. I posted something similiar about a month ago to see if people feed (bottle/breast) their baby to sleep/all but asleep and I got a lot of yes they do. You get more responses during the day.  One girl said she had to walk around the house for 1 - 2+ hours tapping their baby's back/butt and another had to stand over the crib rocking her baby back and forth while the baby was on their knees in order to get him to sleep. I think it's ok to do our routine for now. Do whatever works/feels right they say.  I'm sticking to my routine. :)

  • We always plan bottles to go to sleep for naps and bedtime and fill in when he needs them otherwise during the day.  I don't really care what most of those books say - that's how DS falls asleep and I like him to go to bed with a full belly.

My girls get bottles before they go to sleep for the night. Sometimes they fall asleep for a nap while feeding but each day is different.

  • This is exactly the schedule that I follow with my LO. I am presently reading The Baby Whisperer and it talks about the importance of having a consistent Eat/Activity/Sleep routine every 4 hours, but I tried many combinations with my LO and this one just works better then any other sequence/schedule, so I am not going to change to the Eat/Activity/Sleep as the Baby Whisperer is suggesting. I am so glad that someone else has the same exact schedule! Makes me feel less crazy! :)
