First ultrasound only shows sac

How many of you had your first ultrasound only show a sac? Based on my HCG level taken yesterday I should be about 5 weeks and 3 days but my doctor said its normal to only show a sac and it may be that I ovulated later than usual which is throwing off our due date. She's rescheduled a 2nd US in 2 weeks and said everything looks good. 

Anyone else go through this?

Anyone getting an u/s at 5 weeks would be "going through this." That's pretty much all there is to see at that point.

You'll see a lot more in two weeks.

This is totally normal....this is why if there is no reason to have an early ultrasound you should wait....too many people get worried when they see this.

This happened to me last week. I thought I was 6 weeks based on my LMP and the us showed an empty sac. I was scheduled to go back a week later but ended up going in 3 days later bc of spotting and sure enough there was a heartbeat!!!! So although hard try not to worry...its really early. I'm sure everything is okay!!

Thanks y'all. I think they did one so early because of PCOS and other concerns and she wanted to make sure everything looked okay ovaries/uterus etc. 

 I just need to be patient and let mother nature work.

I was 8w when the u/s showed empty sacs. I miscarried a few days later. I wouldn't worry at 5w though.

I had an u/s at 5 wks and it was an empty sac (no yolk) and 2 wks later there was everything...so hang in there.

My first u/s was at 5w2d and all we saw was the sac. That's really all you expect to see at that point. You will definitely see more at the next u/s.

Wow!  My Dr. won't even say "boo" to me until I'm 8 weeks!  Almost 40, HBP and history of MC and they still don't care to have me in before then.  Sounds like your Dr. is all over things!  I would try and relax and trust her advice.

The same thing happened to me today!  I had a m/c in March, and at the most, I could be 6w 1d, but the tech said I was measuring more like 5w-5.5w, so she said to come back in a week and a half.  It is really scary.  I've been trying to read everything I can, but I guess I'll just have to be nervous for the next week and a half.  My dr. did take hcg levels again.  Will find out results tomorrow.

Here's hoping for the best for both us!

I went in yesterday for my 1st appt and the US onliy showed a sac.  I am going back tomorrow for them to draw blood work again and back ina week for another ultra sound.  The Dr. said that I ovulated late do I am not as far along as  I thought.  I thought I was 6w5day

at 5wks my baby looked like a black jelly bean during the 1st ultra sound (aka sac).  Then I had a 2nd ultra sound 4 weeks later and it looked like a little alien!  Don't worry- go online and look for pics of babies at 5 wks and you'll see that all baby looks like is cauliflower.

We just had our first ultrasound today and we were 6weeks and 1 day.  We say a little sac and a tiny little thing with a flicker.  They said it was a heartbeat and that it probably just started beating.  It was 122 bpm.  We scheduled another u/s for 2 weeks just to make sure everything is growing.  I am sure you will see much more in 2 weeks.  Congratulations!

This just happened to us today!  Based on my LMC I should be 7w2d but I have only had one 28 day cycle since kicking the pill, so I expected to be a little behind.   We had an U/S and all we got to see was a gestational sac - not the heartbeat we hoped to see, but a firm confirmation of the pregnancy at least!  We also are rescheduled for another U/S in 2 weeks to see the heartbeat - can't wait!

I never had an ultrasound until 20 weeks.

My first ultrasound was done around 5 weeks, I had no idea how far along i was at all. It only showed a sac. I went back at 6 weeks for another u/s and then you could see the baby.

I disagree.  Unless you are having specific problems trying to put off the U/S until 8 weeks makes sense.  I was having some intense pains on Saturday (didn't call but laid down for a couple of hours) for about 4 hours.  For this reason they want me to have an U/S (with an almost identical background as sokmonkee) but want me to wait until 8 weeks unless the pain comes back.  I think they can see a lot more at 8 weeks and that is why.

Same thing happened to me...  u/s at what should have been 5 weeks showed nothing!  Nurse said it could be ectopic or perhaps I o'd late.  u/s a week later showed gestational sac with yolk sac.  The following week u/s showed embryo with hb and they were able to take measurements which indicated I o'd 3 days late.  A LOT of stress in there...  I wish that I had listened when they said they typically schedule the first appointment for the 7-8 week mark and not insisted on coming in early just because!
