where you feel like a horrible mom and everything just sucks.
Henry is on day 2 of his nursing strike which has caused my supply to tank. I am trying to pump as much as I can, but I think I will eventually have to give him formula. I don't think formula is bad, but I really wanted to make it to at least a year. Every time I try to nurse him he screams which of course makes me cry.
I just put him down for a nap and then decided I was tired so I got him out of his crib to bring him to bed with me. When I laid down with him he screamed and pushed me away. I know he's a baby and doesn't know what he's doing, but it still made me feel horrible. When I put him back in his crib he went straight to sleep.
For whatever reason this is hands down on of the worst days since he's been born.
Re: Do you ever have days...
Please don't get down on yourself. It may not be ideal, but you can get through it!
Have you contacted his ped?
I call those my off-mom days. Some days you're just "off". Like you and LO are out of sync.
Ben did that to me the other morning (pushed me away) and I cried! He's usually such a mommy's boy that it hurt that he didn't want me!
I took him in. He's totally fine except he has two teeth that just popped through.
Amy I am sorry you're going through this. I went through the same thing with Mason, just a different situation. I had mastitis really bad and he didn't want to eat (probably because nothing was really coming out), so he would just SCREAM. I felt awful. I was crying, and he was crying. It was just a bad time. My supply completely tanked after that and I had to quit nursing. I am currently weaning. I am down to three feedings a day. That was definetely the most awful experience that I had since he was born. I know how you feel.
I am sorry you're having such a bad day. I hope it gets better for you.
Eli always has issues with eating when he gets teeth. As soon as he gets relief, he turns into an eating machine!
I hope that is the case. I am not ready to wean yet. His teeth are popped through, but maybe they are still hurting.
I had a few days like what you are describing only two weeks ago. He was screaming if I even walked near the chair that we usually nurse in. He would only nurse in the middle of the night or when he was really tired. When I tried to rock him or walk with him to put him to sleep he would just squirm and scream. It was like he was mad at me for something. We ended up both crying and DH had to take him away and try to get him to eat a bottle (he would only take 2 ounces).
That lasted a few days then he was back to "normal"...of course now he is refusing to eat much at all from his bottles while I am at work. UGH. Babies are hard to figure out!
I'm sorry you are dealing with this and I know how much it sucks...but, like you said, he is just a baby and isn't doing this on purpose. He loves you very much.
This is what he does. He nursed at 3am and 6am this morning, but that is about it. Did your supply tank? I am hoping pumping helps me out a little.
My supply recovered after a few days of pumping. I pump 3x at work so I know for certain that my breasts are being emptied at least then. This happened on a weekend though (of course) and I just pumped whenever it was time for him to eat if he refused. Plus I basically tried to put him to the breast like every hour just to see if he changed his mind yet.
If I were you I would pump after each refusal. Will he take a cup at all? William thinks it is a game to drink from a cup because Mommy and Daddy do it...so I could always get an ounce or two in him that way (and much more all over his clothes).
I got 4oz in him this morning by adding it to cereal (it was basically milk with enough cereal to make him tolerate it haha) and then got another oz in by syringe feeding him.
Man, I wish my DD would go straight to sleep in her crib!
See, grass is always greener.
In all honesty, though, that sucks. I definitely have days like that. Hell, I have so many days like that that I'm seeing my doctor next week about it. Hang in there!
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this too. It does make you feel so helpless. DH just tried to give Henry a bottle and Henry refused to take it from him. It kind of made me feel better because I know it's just not me. How are you getting your little guys milk in? We are mixing it with just enough cereal for him to take it and have been syringe feeding him. It's ridiculous.
