C/S question

Just curious, why do so many celebrities get c/s's?  They can't all be medically necessary, right?  I've never heard one explain why they went the c/s route.

ETA:  Just realized, I am not sure c/s is the official abbreviation for c-section.

I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

Re: C/S question

  • I read c/s as c-section :)

I don't know that they are any more likely to get them than IRL people. The bulk of women I know have c/s.

  • I heard (I have no idea if it's true or not) that a lot of celebrities have planned c/s because they do not want to go to 40 weeks and great all stretched out. I heard many of them plan them early like between 34-36 weeks. Again, this is what I've heard. No clue if it's all true or not. Makes you wonder though.

Many of my friend have had a c/s (emergency) as well as me (2nd was planned as will the 3rd) but I also have some that had vaginal births.

  • I would guess it is because they have other commitments. They need to deliver when baby's daddy has time off (if he is a celebrity as well, it gets complicated) and they probably need to be back in shape by a certain date.

I would figure that many of them are induced early, nothing happens because it is too early, then they end up with a c/s.

  • The C-section rate in the US is 1 in 4, I'm pretty sure.  Some are due to high risk, etc.  But I have also heard that another reason to prefer a c/s is they don't want to get all stretched out down there. :-/  Also, it's nice to have a scheduled delivery with no pushing.  Mine was an emergency c/s and, though I did not want to do that, it was nice to bypass the rest of labor and delivery!  Recovery wasn't THAT bad, though I started crying one time when I sneezed. Ouch!

  • I wonder how many of them get tummy tucks while they are still open.  It does seem like they get their figures back unrealistically fast.  I heard Mary McCormick in an interview say that she elected the c-section so her vagina wouldn't get stretched out.  Controlling the timing of delivery makes some sense I guess.  I guess I was just wondering if there was some advantage that I didn't realize.  I think the kendra post made me think of it.

  • I have no idea if it's true or not but I remember reading a theory once that there are so many scheduled c/s in Hollywood b/c of STD's.  So vaginal delivery is not a good option b/c it could spread the disease to the baby?  Again, no idea if there is any truth to that but it does make you wonder...  I also have wondered if they don't have some sort of plastic surgery while they are in there just to get it all done at once and maybe that explains why they seem to bounce back so quickly.

I actually thought it was might be because a lot of them had herpes or something.

  • My first c/s was due to my daughter being breech, second one was because the first dr didnt send the birth records to the new dr so they didnt know how the incision was done, but I'm going to have another c/s this time.  The thought of having to go through L&D is scary to me (guess it's what you're comfortable with.   If I had the money I'd be having a tummy tuck afterwards too  Big Smile

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure this was discussed as a potential reason for Britney Spears having a scheduled c/s with her first.  Somehow... I believe it.

I agree.  I have actually thought about an elective c-section for a lot of reasons. But I have a fear of surgery (infection, blood loss and the need for a transfusion, etc...) so I don't know.  I guess when I get close I will have to just pick a birth plan based on whichever one makes me the least anxious.

Aww.  That means that Justin Timberlake probably has herpes and that just makes me sad Sad  Unless she got it from k-fed.

  • I think you'd be hard pressed to find a surgeon willing to do a c/s and tummy tuck at the same time :) But if you have enough money I suppose anything is possible!
That is soooo interesting about the STDs. Yikes!
