Here's the quick background. DD has had a cold with runny nose/coughing for 2.5 weeks now. She had diarrhea for 9 days but that cleared up on Thursday.
I check her temp every morning so Saturday morning it was normal but she'd only eat half of her bottle which never happens. By 11am it was 101 degrees. I've been giving her tylenol because I assumed it was from teeth coming in (she had 2 break through yesterday) but then tonight her fever went up to 102 and then back down to 101 with tylenol. The tylenol only seems to drop it 1 degree. She's eating okay but sometimes refuses food all together and sometimes only eats half her bottle but sometimes the whole thing.
She was exhausted all day yesterday and slept more than usual and then tonight she was exhausted again but didn't fall asleep right away. She even started screaming so I rocked her for a little bit (usually she sings herself to sleep in her crib), gave her orajel and then I put her back down drowsy but awake and she fell asleep. I'm worried it's possibly an ear infection? Not sure what else it could be...
Any thoughts/advice would be great. My husband is out of the country and I don't have any family close by and I'm really worried....
Re: DD's Sick - Not Sure With What, Can You Give Some Advice Please?
That fever is a lil high. I'd call your doctor, if I were you.
We have ear infections (and probably on our road to tubes) all.the.time. Did she cry when you laid her flat in her crib?
Rectally? Everything I've read says anything below 100.4 is not considered a fever.
OP- I would call the pedi in the morning. It is pretty easy for them to see if she has an ear infection at all.
We went to the doctor for the diarrhea on wednesday and it cleared up on it's own that night (they think it was a virus).
She didn't complain while being changed or flat on her back today but I've kept her sitting more since her nose is runny/stuffy.
Also, those temps are from her forehead on one of those swipy thermometers (not sure the real name, sorry).
She's sleeping now almost flat, there's a blanket under half of her mattress. I'll try and call her doctor now and continue to monitor her temp.
Yeah, she's going to the bathroom like normal...
Also, she hasn't tugged on her ear at all, I've been watching for that.
Tugging on the ear really isn't a symptom of an ear infection. I would call the pedi now if she seems really unhappy. If she is sleeping okay I would call in the morning.
Yes, rectally. I should have chosen better wording. If temp ever reaches 100.1, my pedi's office likes patients with infants < 1 year to call.
