Progesterone drop while on Prometrium

Hi.  I am hoping someone can comment on what I'm going through.  I had my first miscarriage in Dec 2009 during my 6th week, and was pregnant again in February, but miscarried again also during my 6th week.  I am now pregnant for a third time and have been seeing a specialist who has me on Prometrium 200 mg twice a day.  I had my blood drawn at 4w1d and my HCG was 79 and Progesterone was 36.6.  My doctor had my blood drawn again at 4w4d (72 hrs later) and my HCG had gone up to 260 (more than doubled), but my progesterone dropped to 20!  My RE said this was in range, but it is not normal for progesterone to rop that much.  He has told me to double my Prometrium dosage to see if we can get the progesterone to go back up.  I go back on Wednesday for more bloodwork to see where I am.  Has anyone had a drop like this, but then had their levels go back up?  I'm frustrated that the prometrium doesn't seem to be working for me.

Progesterone does go up and down from hour to hour, so do remember that. Also my progesterone was 9.6 on Prometrium 200 mg once a day and when down to 8.8 before they put me on twice a day. I went off of them at 12 weeks and everything is still going good. I also know of a coworkers wife that tested a 6.5 with her last pg and had a happy healthy baby boy.

Good luck and remember that numbers vary from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy...there are very few solid stats on what your numbers need to be for a healthy pg!

Thank you for the encouragement.  I really need that right now.  I can't seem to think of anything else.  Hopefully my levels will look good next week.  Both of my previous mc's have been during week 6 which is this coming up week this time, so I'm a little anxious and nervous right now.

Mine dropped even after taking prometrium, so they upped my dose and it stayed pretty level through the rest of 1st tri. As long as it doesn't go too low you are fine. Mine was never very high to begin with though.

So - a little update. I have been taking the double dose as the doctor told me to do, but started having some light brown spotting yesterday.  At first I freaked out because that is how my previous mc's started, but it's now 24 hours later and I'm only having a very small amount and it's still brown (no pink or red).  I went in for bloodwork to see if we can tell more whats going on yesterday and the Doctor should call me back this morning with the results.  Fingers crossed!  This waiting just sucks!
