snowbabies under observation

how long after your ET do you normally find out how many made it to freeze?

Our *early* blasts are being observed, but I'm not sure they'll call tomorrow since it's Sunday?

My IVF nurse told me it's my right to freeze everything and anything if I want to, and I would rather freeze everything and let nature figure itself out in the future than find out on Monday that the decision was made for me.

For IVF #2 I had a few embryos that were lagging a bit and were being watched.  I found out a day or two later that they didn't meet freezing requirements.

I honestly wouldn't freeze embryos unless the meet your clinics standards.  I personally would rather know I had nothing that was good enough quality then get my hopes up about having 4-5 on ice that were not that great of quality.  Just think how much it would suck to prepare for a FET only to find out an hour before your ET that nothing made it through thaw.  To me, that would be much harder than accepting that I didn't have any to freeze.

  • I hope they are all great ones and all make it to freeze. I hope they have a hard time deciding which ones to transfer and which to freeze..I hope they all are strong little fighters for you.

thanks baze! My transfer was actually this morning. We had four early blasts though that remained after transfer that are being observed for cryo. I would love to have frozens so that I don't have to do another fresh cycle in the future (regardless of whether this IVF works).

Thanks for the well wishes :)

  • I think you should wait and see what meets the requirements. It was very hard on me to prepare for my FET  only to find out no embies made the thaw.

  • I'm with LCB on this one.

You don't want to go through all the prep and then get there to find you have nothing.  With IVF#1 we had 4 perfect blasts to freeze and when it came to FET, the first 2 didn't survive thaw.  We transfered the other 2.   For IVF#2 I had tons of blasts but none of them met the quality standard, so we didn't freeze any.  The way I see it, if 50% of my perfect blasts didn't make it, then what are the chances for the ones that the embryologist didn't think were good enough?

  • My clinic did not leave it up to us.  They just said they would freeze what they could.  I think I knew within 2 or 3 days.
