Infertility

IVF and haircolor

I finally need to color over my gray :-(   I guess its not too bad considering how freakin' old I am but my question is when in my cycle should I do it?

While stimming (I am now), between ER/ET, or it doesn't matter?

Any tips on coloring at home I need to know? I'm a virgin.

Re: IVF and haircolor

  • That's a very intersting question! My first RE never told me not to (although it was a DE cycle) but then, I never thought to ask.

I'm in the same boat you're in, so I'll be interested to hear the replies.

  • I have the same question.  I don't trust myself to do haircolor at home though.

  • I get my hair colored all the time - mostly highlights and gloss not full color but it's never been an issue.

if you are dying at home always go one shade lighter than you think you need to and if your hair is thick get two boxes. Also put the dye on your roots first and then on your ends last, especially if it's been a while since you've gotten a cut/trim. "Dead" hair at the ends absorbs color faster and so if you put it on too soon the ends will look saturated or darker than your root! GL!

  • I've never done at-home hair color so I'm no help there but on the FAQ sheet from my RE it says hair color is fine during treatment and during pregnancy.
TTC since August 2008 4 cycles Femara = BFN Dx PCOS February 2010, 1000 mg Metformin XR IUI #1: Dexamethasone + Femara + Ovidrel + Progesterone = BFN IUI #2: Dexamethasone + Femara + Ovidrel + Progesterone = BFP! Our son arrived January 17, 2011!
  • Niki had great tips.  It's fine to do any time.  The only thing I was told is to make sure it's in a well ventilated area.

  • i was told by RE if it doesn't touch the scalp its ok (like foils), otherwise not to dye it

  • I coloured my hair shortly after a failed ivf cycle...Well i found that the colour i normally use did not take as well. The colour was uneven and even lighter than before. My hairdresser said it was probably due to all the drugs and hormones I had been taking. I think this time I will dye my hair before FET.
