Infertility

*updated* what is going on?!?

This morning we had another ultrasound.  Expected little to no change and hopefully a definitive plan at this point.   Well.... the sac has doubled in size.  I was so surprised and my RE was a little more optimistic about it.  What the heck is going on?  I didn't see anything inside of the sac, and if RE did, he didn't say so  or point it out.  So now... more waiting.  They drew another beta and he wants me to keep taking the hormones.  Once I get those results I find out whats next, most likely another ultrasound mid next week.  This is so confusing.  I mean... I don't know if this is good news or not.  I really don't understand.

Update: I'm thinking Nicki may be right... this could be a blighted ovum, but my doc hasn't even thrown that out there at this point.  This just sucks!!!  And I got the call from the nurse... my beta went from 1,116 to 1,293.   For perspective, we did a 6dt on 4/13; so it's been there for quite some time.  This is so frustrating!

  • how freaking annoying that they aren't telling you anything. FWIW, my beta was up around 1700 at the time of my last u/s I was 6w, 2d. No one told me this EVER, I read it in my D&C discharge papers.

The last number that I was ever told was at my u/s 5w, 2d and my beta was 392.

With a blighted ovum, your body doesn't actually know you're not pregnant because the embryo attached to your lining and it's outer cells have continued to divide (abnormally slow) but the inner cells are no longer functioning (if that makes sense). So your hCG continues to rise and such.

Were they able to see a yolk sac or a fetal pole?

  • I'm so sorry you are having to go through this.  I know how tough that is.  I ended up with blighted ovums during my first 4 pregnancies (two empty sacs one of the times) and my hcg levels always doubled at first.  They ended up slowing down though eventually.  All I ever saw was big black, empty holes.  I hope that your doctor's optimism is correct and that you will see a tiny baby and h/b next u/s, but I too agree with Nicki that it does sound an awful lot like a blighted ovum.  Again, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this and I hope everything turns out well for you.
