I personally dont like Hunter...why do you want to come here?  LOL  We have had nothing but problems, either with hubs' unit, or housing, or whatever, since we got here.  Sure, Savannah is BEAUTIFUL and there is so much to do, but Hunter, from what I understand, is one of those places that you want to go to, and then hate the entire time you're here.

What other places do you want to go when flight school's done?

  • We put down Lewis then Hawaii, Riley and Alaska were not possibilities at the time. Are you living on post? We did put it first because of its location close to the beach, the historical aspect, we haven't decided if we are going to try to get on post or not, but I've looked at real estate and it seems pretty comparable to Ft. Rucker. Rucker is pretty small and I've heard that Hunter is along the same lines size wise. Really coming from here where there is one Target in a 72 miles radius and nothing to do here, anywhere is better than here. We won't know until September/October and for all I know, we could be going to Ft. Drum (I really hope not, I've heard winters are horrible).

  • In regards to Ft. Drum, yes winters are horrible.  I used to live about 1.5 hours from there, grew up there.  I hated it, and was glad when I left.  Hunter is small.  Very small.  There is a Target right outside one of the gates, though...very nice.  Also a very nice library.  We live on post...apparently because we had 2 kids, they could share a room, nevermind the fact that my son was trying to kill my daughter.  He has Aspbergers, so we got put on the waiting list for a 3 bedroom, but they never put my daughter on the lease, so they didnt understand why (even with all the paperwork noting my daughter) we needed a 3 bedroom.  Of course, now that there are 2 on the way, they bumped us up to 4 bedrooms.  We were at Ft. Campbell before this, and LOVED IT.  Housing was run by civilians, but still under the military.  Here, it's run by a UK-based company.

I have a friend that has been trying to buy a house off post for a while now.  She finally had to pull their original contract, and go look for a new house, because Wells-Fargo was being turdtastic.  So, if you do end up looking off post, make sure to stay clear of them...they will try and get $10,000 more than originally asked.

  • I wondered who was running housing, because I know some posts/bases are still being run by the military, Rucker is run by a civilian company and while we are in the 1950's housing, they are demoing all the old houses and replacing the duplexes with single family homes. I've heard Campbell is great, but we didn't put it down, one because we were concerned with how big it is compared to all the little posts that we have been to. Luckily we know someone at just about every post that his aircraft can be sent to so hopefully we can get some information on the areas before deciding on/off post and renting vs. buying. Thanks for the info on Hunter!

  • Campbell is big, but not too much.  Most of the post is uninhabited.  LOL...there's a lake and stuff on post...so yeah.  The actual living areas arent that big.  They do have a hospital on post, and enough drs that usually you can get seen on post.  Hunter, not so much.  You basically have to be lucky to be seen on post, but there's no hospital.  The great thing about Campbell, is the PX and Commy...they are HUGE and full of wonderful things!  LOL
