Gripe water for constipation? Or other remedies?

I saw that someone posted something about gripe water having a nice "side effect" that it helped with constipation.  Is that true for anyone?

Our little ones don't have colic, but they both have constipation and are having such a hard time pooing and are really gassy (both of them are little fart factories and seem to be in a lot of pain until they poot).

We've tried every formula out there and they react pretty much the same to all of the gentle ones -- it helps with the reflux/spitting up/gas, but then causes the lower intestine gas and trouble pooing. We used to give them prune juice, but that seemed to cause the same lower intestine gas too.

We don't go back to the doc for another couple of weeks so just wondering if there is something else we can try.

  • my dd has had trouble pooping, also. after two days w/o going i give her one ounce of gerber pear juice daily, then i start adding a teaspoon of dark karo syrup to each 3 oz. bottle (i bf and supplement with 2 bottles of formula daily), i take her temp rectally once daily, and if nothing by day 5 i give her half a glycerin suppository. all were suggestions from my doctor's office. the longest she has been w/o going is 6 days.
