Best Bottles for Gassy Babies

Hello All,

Our baby is just three weeks old and was born fairly small (5 lbs, 6 ounces).  She has been breast feeding like a champion and we want to keep her breast feeding, but want to introduce a bottle for once a day or every two days so she can make the transition before she goes to day care at 12 weeks.  She has had problems with gas, so I was looking for recommendations on bottles that will help reduce gas and make the transition from breast to bottle and back to breast easier.  Thanks for your help in advance.

  • We had great luck & still do, with Dr. Browns

  • I've tried several and DD seems to to the best with the Dr Browns (Wide).  We also have the Playtex Drop-ins and she has a harder time with the nipple.  I went out and bought the Breastflow by The First Years last weekend, and wasn't super impressed.  She does just as well with the Dr Browns, so I probably will stick to that one.  She honestly just prefers the breast, but hasn't had any nipple confusion.
  • thanks all for your advice. I want to have a few bottles on hand just to make sure she doesn't freak out.  We just want the flexbility to give her a bottle.  Even though I wish she could just stay breast feeding.

  • Dr Browns, hands down
  • If it were me, I'd buy one of a few kinds and try them. Dr. Brown's don't seem to work well with my DS at all, even though most people rave over them. We like Playtex Drop-Ins, and my pediatrician has recommended we try Evenflo for our gassy baby. We also like Nuk, which has the orthodontic nipple.GL!

  • We've been using Platex Vent-aire with the big nipples for babies who breast feed. :) Work great so far!

I have only used the Medela bottles but they seem to work well.

  • I have always FF Tori.  We have tried every bottle under the sun for her.  I recently bought the Tomme Tippee bottles from BRU and so far they are working great!  We got the ones for sensitive tummy.  It could just be a fluke but at her last 2 feedings she hasn't spit up at all and she hasn't been gassy either.  However some moms have reported that the nipple colapses to easily.  We haven't had any problems though, they are pretty pricey!
