What was UNDER your LO's stump???

lol - sorry, random question

After 5 1/2 weeks, my LO's stump FINALLY came off... (like 3 days ago now) but it's definitely not healed. It's not black like the stump piece that fell off - it's more white like how the cord was before it dried up. And now that the stump is off it won't stay dry cause it's not fully an outie anymore?! I dunno if any of that makes sense but I'm wondering if that's normal, if I should call the doc, or if I should keep putting alcohol on it to try to dry it out?!

My pedi said not to use alocohol.  She said it prohibits it from drying.  She just said to leave it alone and DD's fell off at exactly 1 week.

DD's had a white area under the stump and her belly button closed over it in a few days.

Our hospital uses triple dye, and our pedis INSISTED we use alcohol with "every diaper change" or "it'll never fall off"... We used alcohol w/both girls, and their BBs looked fine afterwards.

After the stump fell off, it looked really gross underneath--kind of yellowish and oozy.  It came off right before we had to go to the doc anyway, and he saw it and was not at all concerned.  He did say to clean it with a little alcohol once a day.

I think alcohol has two effects - dries and disinfects. Of course, if the bb is raw or somehow open -- that's gonna hurt!

Sounds like how DD's looked.  Her's fell off the morning of her 2 week pedi appointment.  She had an umbilical granuloma.  Her pedi said it's fairly common, but usually won't dry on it's own and has a tendency to get infected.  He just applied a little bit of silver nitrate and it dried it up in a few days.  Sometimes, it takes more than one application.  I would call the pedi and tell them what it looks like.

I was also told no alcohol. It tends to make it take longer to fall off.
