BC suggestions

I see my doc in 3 weeks and will discuss with them also but im curious what form of BC others are using, especially if you want more kids right away???

I cant get PG for at least 6 months due to c-section, so I need something. We had trouble getting PG with DS due to mild PCOS and hypothyroidisim. I also feel that being on the pill for years didnt help. I dont really want to go back on the pill but I dont know what other alternatives there are.

So any suggestions??? and why do you like what your using?

Our hope is to get PG as soon as we can after the 6 months.

Re: BC suggestions

  • I'm on the minipill. I hated the regular pill and had side effects, but i noticed nothing when I began this pill (camila). My bf had a baby oct 21. She didn't want to get on the pill and definately didn't want to do an IUD or anything. Her doc said she would be okay with them just using condoms. She said since it took her awhile to get preg and then do want more children that would do the trick, especially since she is bfing.

  • Our midwifes recommend IUDs even for those who are planning more kids soon. I didn't want to get one put in right away and so we're using condoms. We plan to wait about a year and start trying again but honestly if something happened sooner I wouldn't be upset. We were using condoms for about a year and half after our wedding until we started trying for this one. I was done with chemical forms of birth control and don't mind condoms too much. Probably after the next kid we'll try an IUD for a while.

Saw my OB today, he did NOT recommend IUD's if you were planning to get pregnant within 1-2 yrs.  If you're gonna try again in 6 months, I'd just use a pill or NuvaRing. Easy to withdraw and try again.

  • I'm on the mini pill.  I have PCOS and hypothyroidism as well.  My doctor said with PCOS the main goal is to supress natural cycles (i.e. use a chemical form of bc) to prevent more of the little cysts from forming and to supress testosterone-related symptoms (the cysts secrete testosterone: cystic acne, facial hair, yada-yada).  i am not sure what your ovaries are like with mild-PCOS, but for me, supression is saving eggs and preventing scar tissue from forming which will be more conducive to ovulating when we are trying again.  For those with PCOS, there are certain BC pills that they recommend over others, I cannot remember what they are but do know they include estrogen (I'm BFing so no go for now).  She also did recommend Mirena if wanted to go the IUD route, which I do not.  Good luck!
