Those with thumb suckers

Re: Those with thumb suckers

  • Pretty early, like 6 months or so?  She first used a pacifier, but when we did Ferber, we took away the pacifier for nighttime, and I think she started using her finger then.  Now she still does it, although my pediatrician says she should outgrow it in a few years.

Oh good - Evan started at 3.5 months when we did a little sleep training with him (b/c he was crying for like 45 minutes to fall asleep while we held him...so we decided to see what he would do by himself. He found his thumb and has slept like a dream since) I really want Leah to find her thumb too. DH and I aren't the type to replace a pacifier 50 times a night. But since she sleeps great now - I don't plan on doing anything for a while...I just didn't want to miss the thumb sucking window!

  • really early... like 2 months when he found it, started... and soon after he stopped liking a paci and just went for his thumb at night or when he was tired.

I remember my family being in from out of town for my brothers wedding (he was 7 weeks old) and my dad's (annoying) cousin telling me how bad it is for babies to suck their thumbs and that I should be trying to force him to take a paci if he tried to suck his thumb!
