how do you wash bottles?

I like to do it in the dishwasher, but I don't run it often enough to do it everytime.  I use those tiny little brushes to clean the nipple, but I realized DD gets fussy and acts like she's choking because some of the tipple tips have been cracked because I guess the little brush pokes through.  How do you do it?

Re: how do you wash bottles?

  • Dishwasher, but we go through so many dishes we end up running it every day or every other day.

  • Usually hand wash in the sink since we don't have a ton of bottles and we don't run the dishwasher every day. When I wash the nipples I just swish it around in the hot soapy water and rub the inside with my finger so we don't get damaged nipples. Seems to work great.
  • Right after I am done I put the bottles and nipples in a bowl of very hot soapy water.  I let them sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse.  I only use the nipple brush if I need to not with every wash.  I also use the dishwasher if I know I am going to be running it soon.

  • I fill my sink with hot soapy water every night and wash the bottles, caps, nipples and pump parts from the day.  I prefer the dishwasher but don't have enough dishes until mid week.  After the nipples are washed and dried, I put them in the Germ Doctor, along with my pump parts.

  • I load them up in the dishwasher, which we run often enough.

But when I'm out of clean bottles and we haven't run the dishwasher, this has worked great. It has a sponge tip and then the brushes. Also, a q-tip helps get the nipples really clean.

I only have two bottles so I just hand wash them in hot soapy water right after each feeding. I use the nipple brush maybe once every third or fourth wash.

  • I just hand wash in between feedings. THey don't need to be put in the dishwasher (or bottle washer) every time!

I then throw them in the dishwasher when its full (usually twice a week)

  • We have enough bottles to get us through one day's worth of feedings plus an extra one for the diaper bag.  At the end of the day after all are used I place the bottles, caps and nipples in hot soapy water for about 5 minutes.  Then I use the bottle brush and rinse at the same time.  I then place all of them in the microwave steam sterilizer (Munchkin) and set them in the microwave for 4 minutes.  It work well for us and I feel like they are really clean.
