Extreme breastfeeding?

Now that I am breastfeeding, I am trying to not be judgy of those who want to BF older children.  But OTHER peoples' kids?

Even worse, poor kid's face is now plastered all over the internet...

I'm really sick of all these stories that turn breastfeeding into something freakish.

I guess everyone needs to wean at 6 months "like most mothers do" according to this article.  Confused

  • oh dear. why go public with it? i mean really if someone is going to do that, fine (not my place to judge) but please keep it to yourself!
  • That picture is just wrong looking.  I say good for them, but really, where will she draw the line?  Once he hits puberty?  At least they don't do it in public anymore, could you imagine seeing that?  I don't so much have a problem with her BFing other kids since people can donate BM.  It would be less oogie if she was feeding them EBM though.

  • I feel bad for the kid, he's probably going to get teased big time now that his mom made it public.

I'm actually more Hmm at this woman BFing the kids she babysits.  And I wonder how that boy will feel when he finds out that picture is on the internet, considering the article claims he felt uncomfortable BFing in public at age 3... this woman is an exhibitionist.

That is the most disturbing part for me. Her own kid - whatever but other people's kids????

  • breastfeeding other people's kids used to be normal... before formula women who couldn't or didn't want to BF had wet nurses.

the key word is USED TO.

I guess there are extremes in everything.

  • Women donate breast milk all the time.  If the babies' parents don't have an issue with this lady breastfeeding their kids, I really don't know why I should give a sh!t.

This. I haven't even read the article but I know that my own mom when she was bf me as a baby also bf my cousin for awhile who is a month older than me because his mom was a druggie and he refused bottles. What should my mom have done just turned her back and and said EWWW nope he can starve...

  • What do you think they do in cultures where there is no formula/bottles and a woman can't breastfeed?
  •  Even creepier..I watched a documentry about a women who breastfeeds her 12 year old still...because shes thinks it's her daughters choice of when she wants to quit nursing...it was disturbing and wrong. I'm all for extended nursing ...but 12? That's wrong!

As far as her nursing other peoples kids..I think if it's for "health" reasons or for reasons that the other mothers don't produce milk..then that's fine. But just tonurse someone else's child for the hell of it..that's weird!

  • None of the other kids' moms CAN'T BF.. she said she is saving them the trouble of pumping, so its just a matter of convenience.  These are not women who need a wet nurse, eesh.  I've heard of (and commend) women who help out families where the woman has no milk but needs the antibodies for her child, or the mother died... but there is nothing preventing these women from providing pumped milk.
