bf'ing moms: does your "let down" hurt?

Mine kills. It feels like a thousand bee stings across my chest. Ouch!

It feels like a lot of sudden pressure. I always picture a water balloon being filled to the max when I feel it.  So, yeah - not too comfySmile

  • Mine is super painful too!  I never knew how to describe it to DH, but a thousand bee stings is a good analogy.

Mine feels like this sometimes! Other times I barely feel it. Weird!

I'm feeling this now when I pump...I hope it's a good thing considering my boobies have been a fail so far.

  • It did early on but I think I just wasn't used to it.  Now it's so relieving

  • It's much stronger and more noticable than it was with my first. If I just think about my boobs they tingle and sting.

ok I googled it. I dont think I feel it. It's the initial latch that hurts me.

  • Let down doesn't hurt but DD sucks so hard sometimes to get the milk flowing that that hurts!

I didn't feel it for the first few weeks, either. My mom would keep asking, "Has your milk let down, yet?" and I had no idea what she was talking about. My doula said that some women never really feel it. Others (like her) still feel it years after they stop breastfeeding -- her son is 13!!!

  • I'm glad you asked this because until I saw Pam on "The Office" get tingly, I thought I was just weak.  Yes, my let down hurts, as in a momentary sharp tingling, but that's only really when I'm completely engorged in the mornings, or if I've skipped a feeding during the day and my boobs are bigger and missing their baby-sponsored relief.
