Getting LO back to sleep at night

Without fail, after DD's first night bottle, she's a bear to put back to sleep. Last night it took 2 hours from the start of the bottle until she finally conked out! This is making for a very sleepy situation. She does fine after the 2nd feeding, so I'm not sure what's going on at her 3am feeding. We always keep the lights down low, no tv, no music, no eye contact -- boring boring boring. Apparently we don't bore her to sleep though.

Any suggestions? Is this a phase?

Re: Getting LO back to sleep at night

  • I had success with this last night. who know's if it will work again tonight :) I don't hold DD while i feed her her bottle I put her in the boppy on my bed or in the living room and hold the bottle for her. (I learned this when I was a nursery school teacher-holding 12 kids to feed kills your arms) anyway, I put her in the boppy, and with one hand i fed her and with the other hand held a book and read it to her in a soft tone, it was a Nora Roberts romance so that mommy was interested too :) Then when she was done the bottle, I put on QVC while I burped her, and sat her back in the boppy, after 15 minutes of QVC she was out like a light! I left her there for 15 more minutes to make sure she was REALLY asleep then transfered her to her crib. She slept for 4 hours! (a record) then she got up for another bottle at 3 am, was back to sleep by 4am and slept until 8am. I'll try it again tonight, hopefully reading and QVC are my lucky bag of tricks....

  • My lo did that for about a week.  Hopefully it'll pass for you as well.

  • I posted the same thing yesterday, seems like it could be part of a growth spurt thing, at least for my LO. He did a lot better last night, but I don't really know if we did anything different. We did unswaddle him to eat, then re-swaddled when we were done. We left the lights almost entirely off (very low), and I held him for 10 mins after he eat. We put him down (sort of awake) in his bed in our room, and within 25 mins he was asleep (sooo much  better than the 2 hours it's been). I've decided it's just a phase, they'll grow out of it. Good luck, I know how fun it is ;)
