Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Really?! Real tears?! Tonight?!

Something is wrong with my baby boy. :( My H dragged me out of the tub to tell me that Simon won't stop crying and there's real tears. I take over (sure enough, his eyes are all wet) and he is screaming. He calms for a moment... Then deep gulpy breath and another wail. Pause... Wail. He sounds like he's in pain! I don't know what to do. I gave him some gas drops and now his daddy is rocking him to sleep. I guess I will try some prune juice next, if that doesn't do the trick. Poor baby, I've never heard him cry like that. :(((

Jack gets real tears sometimes. It breaks my heart.

Aw, poor Simon and poor Mommy!  I hope he feels better soon.  DH and I were just talking tonight about how sad it would be when we started seeing tears.

  • Jack just started real tears recently too.

I don't have any advice, but Jack cries like that too. Every day. With him, I just keep him moving and give him Gripe Water and eventually he'll calm down and then either fart or fall asleep.

If you think it could be gas, try a warm compress on his tummy and then hold him really close so that there is slight pressure on his tummy. That works pretty well for Jack.

It's soooo much more heartbreaking when there are tears involved. :( My poor baby.

I will try that if he doesn't settle down. What do you use as a warm compress?

I was given this when DS first came home because he's always struggled with bad gas.

You could probably heat a towel. I put the insert in the microwave for 20 seconds.

  • A fresh towel from the dryer would work also as a warm compress and it will be big enough to wrap around the entire abdomen.

I cried with LO the first couple times she had tears rolling down her cheeks...

  • DD does this during her colic period at night
  • We were in the same boat last night. DS stomach was so hard it was crazy. He is a might pooper and we still get 2-4 good ones a day. Yesterday he didn't have one and about 7 he started wailing. He has never cried like this before and it broke my heart. We have seen a real tear before though.

What we did: we took warm lotion and massaged his tummy in a clockwise circular motion. This got some out, but then he wanted to eat again. Once he ate it was back to being hard. We have this back heating thing that heats in the microwave. We put that down on me and let him lay on it. We wanted him to squirm on the heated pad. That helped him to get more gas out and then he went to bed. He still has not had that good poop, but we are waiting and hoping.

** nevermind as I was typing he got it out... thank god.

That's so true!  Luke cried on the way home from a restaurant on Friday night.  I felt bad but knew we just needed to get home to get him to bed.  I got him out of the van and we not only had our first real tears, but our first snot bubbles too!  It made me want to cry!
