Baby's been out only once... for a doctor's appointment. I'm kind of scared to take him out because he's so young and new! When did you start to feel comfortable taking your little one places?
After nearly 2 weeks I had to get out of the house. We started going on walks around the block. I feed her, change her and we are out now for 30-45 minutes every other day. It's helped her understand day from night & I get exercise.

At 2 weeks, we took DS out to my parent's house. Probably a week or so after that we started taking him to the grocery store and such. I think he was probably around 5 weeks when we first went out to dinner with him. I felt comfortable taking him out in public pretty much right away because he can stay in his carseat. We leave him in there and we make sure we wash/Purell our hands before we handle him.
ETA: I still haven't taken him out by myself yet (other than for walks) because I'm skerrrred :P
We went to bloomingdales the day we got discharged. Baby's are human beings just like us and I know I hate to be confined to the house. When we were in Chicago we went out every other day (it was cold) but now that we are out here in Hawaii with the nice weather we go out everyday and baby flew at 3 weeks! He's never been sick either. I think the fresh air is good for him, remember there are more germs in your house than outside
haha, my son is baby #2 and at 5weeks old he was at the aquarium in atlanta with us today! at 2.5 weeks he went to bible study with me and he's been to babies r us and many restaurants- put a muslin blanket (aden and anais) over the carseat and people just walk by and won't try to touch him....and will help guard against germies and sneezes and coughs...plus, the fresh air and sun exposure is good for them!
We've already taken Makayla with us out to eat and to run errands. I just keep a blanket over her carseat while we're out so no one will try to touch her.
We just went on our first walk just now! We won't take him in an enclosed store or in a crowd until he's 6 weeks. Before that if he gets a fever, it's an automatic hospital stay (AAP guideline) and I won't put him through that because I can't wait.
We went out to the lactation nurse at 4 days old, to an out door mall and restaurant at 5 days old, and this week at 3 weeks 4 days he will be flying to meet my family (it is only a 50 min flight). He is breastfed so he gets my antibodies, doctor and lactation nurse both said it is perfectly fine for him to be out, Just take normal precautions. (Sorry if there are errors in this post, I am typing with one hand as I feed the little man).

We took DD to H&R Block at 5 days old. We've gone out pretty much everyday since then. She stays in her carseat and nobody touches her. She hasn't been sick yet.

This. Liam has been out and about, yes even to the grocery store, since day 4. He doesn't even have the sniffles, and lemme tell you, my car was yellow with all the pollen, and the store was packed
We had a baby shower at my mom's house when DS was 3 days old (he was 2 weeks early). We took him, and there were probably 40 people there. I just kept him close to me in the Bjorn and it seemed to work out okay. We've been taking him places ever since - just using common sense.
This was something that never worried me. We had a dr's appointment the day after the hospital, outlet mall shopping when he was 5 days old, and a 4 hour road trip to Chicago at four weeks, to name a few. I wanted him to be used to riding in the car and being around other people...and I'm happy we did that. He has adapted to our schedule wonderfully (has not gotten sick at all) and it allows us to continue with life!
Re: When did you start to take baby out more?
2 months, I was chicken!
ETA: I started taking him for walks at a couple weeks once it was nice but not out in public unttil around 6. I got comfortable at 8 weeks.
