talk to me about baby carriers

i am kind of torn between the baby k't an and the moby. my concern with the moby is that it is a lot of fabric, will be hot during the summer and slightly complicated to put on.

i have heard the k'tan is lighter weight and it certainly looks simpler to use. i can't even fathom mh being able to put the moby on himself ever, but potentially may be able to handle the k'tan.

i am not incredibly concerned about wearing both babies at once, especially past the newborn stage because i am not sure my back could handle that for longer than 15 minutes at a time.

Re: talk to me about baby carriers

  • I've heard good things about the K'tan. I got a moby last weekend for a great price at a consignment sale so I'm going to try it before looking into other types of carriers. A friend is going to also let me try her Baby Bjorn and Ergo to see which we like best. I don't anticipate carrying them both at once very much, but I like that I have the option with the Moby while they're small. After that I have a feeling we'll like the Ergo a lot so we'll probably just use that when we're both out with them.
  • I obviously don't have experience with the twins yet, but I did make my own Moby wrap for when DS was little and went through the "I only want to be held by mommy" phase. It wasn't hard to put on at all once you got it done after about two times. I used to use it when we'd go for a quick shopping like at Toys R Us or something and we weren't too long (although DH takes forever in there lol). He used to love it and would always fall asleep. It is really comfy and I used it in the summer (DS was born in mid June). I just bought fabric at Joann's and then cut it in half again and I got two and a small one out of one cut of fabric! (I cut it length wise) DH was really bummed he couldn't wear it because I didn't think he'd want to use it and didn't get a couple of extra yards. But, yes it's great! I would keep one in the car and one at home! Can't wait to use it with the twins all cuddled up next to me :) (oh, I made mine just because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a wrap that he may not like since he didn't care for any of the other carriers that I tried....so it cost me about $25 at most!)

I bought a Moby because people raved about them but I didn't like it.  All that fabric was too complicated for me, particularly because if I was going to wear a baby, it was because one was fussy and I didn't want to spend forever trying to get it on.  I got a K'tan instead and liked it much better.  It was much easier to use for me.  Of course, it's also more expensive and sizing is more important than the Moby.  So, depending on your size and DH's size, you may not be able to both use the same K'tan.

  • The Moby looked too complicated for me. I knew I would be flustered trying to get it on with two crying babies. I went straight for the K'tan. I love it. Its super comfortable and both babies like being in it. I bought the one at Target since it was cheaper than other places and I had gift cards. I wish I had purchased a different one. The only color available at Target is black and that will be too hot this summer. Ditto what pp said about sizing. I wear a Medium and it doesn't fit on my DH. Thankfully a friend gave us a bjorn that my DH really likes.
  • I have a Moby for myself- I practiced with it a bit and totally got the hang of it and then we have Bjorn for DH
