Swaddle escapees ?

So, your baby is a master at escaping the swaddle (I'll post pics later - he ends up 1 foot down the crib wearing the blanket like a toga)... but without it, he wakes himself up within about 5 minutes. What do you do?

Is my only hope to buy one of the velcro swaddlers? I was really hoping to avoid, but this kid is a Houdini. Or are there other things you can do to help them not startle themselves? TIA!

  • Mine was to until I did the no escape swaddle.  No she never gets out.  There is a video in youTube...

  • We double swaddle DS - we use a light receiving blanket and a Swaddle Me (he's in a onesie only so he doesn't get too hot).  He can escape either one on their own but he can't Houdini out of the double swaddle!!!!

we use the Halo sleep sack and have good success with that. Sometimes she can get her hands free, so I will leave one arm out. She still sleeps well that way.
  • I have the velcro ones. He escapes that. I have tried to the no escape double swaddle...he escapes that. I am about to order a Woombie and hope that it works. He will only sleep either swaddled super tight around his arms.
  • My daughter escapes the velcro swaddle thing. I will have to try a double swaddle.

  • My DS escapes any swaddle.  We've given up and he's perfectly content not to be swaddled.  We do use a Sleepsack at night (w/o the velcro swaddler) and he loves that.
  • I double swaddled in the SwaddleMe's for a little while which kept him contained but he spent so much energy all night trying to break out (and was so relieved in the morning when I freed him) that I finally just tried him unswaddled and he's doing great.

A picture of him sporting his toga.  In order to get his arm out, he pulled it out of the sleeve and then out of the blanket.

  • she escapes the swaddle, the double swaddle, and the velcro ones. We gave up. The first two nights were hard, but now she's fine sleeping without it. She throws her arms above her head and sleeps like that.

This. We kind of do a swaddle around his chest, under his armpits, so that the blanket stays snug and safe through the night, and he's still happy because his arms are free.

  • We're about to give up. We tried the escape free swaddle, but we felt so bad pinning his arms under like that and he HATED it. Last night we used a velcro swaddle and that worked, but he spent so much time trying to escape it that he didn't sleep. We eventually took it off of him about 2am, and he did fairly well. We're thinking of abandoning the swaddle.

  • We swaddle our LO in Halo sleepsack swaddles every night!  And they are amazing!  He sleeps awesome in them, and has not gotten his arms out yet.  Totally worth the money.  Plus, they are easier to reswaddle with in the middle of the night and safe then loose blankets in the event the swaddle could come undone.
