I'm not super-well-versed on this either, but I don't recall that being necessarily the case. And with the two months I did get pg, I don't recall the CM being EW any longer than for the usual day or two around ovulation. In my case, at least, I didn't really have any clue/sign that I might be pg until the period was late. Pg symptoms didn't kick in for me until after I got the BFP. Everyone's body is different, but I wouldn't assume anything about conception one way or the other just based on CM.

I was never an internal CM checker, but it definitely became different after getting pg--definitely not EW and almost not even really sticky. Sorry for TMI--but just a lot more secretions.

for me, my EWCM would always taper off after ovulation. some months it's dry up right away and other months i'd have it still for 2-3 days after I ovulated.
with my 1st pregnancy, which was from an IVF, i didn't have the EWCM and stuff to go by i guess because of all the meds. but i definitely felt different immediately after the transfer and all the days leading up to the BFP.
I'm now in my 2nd pregnancy and this one was TOTALLY different. I didn't feel any symptoms at all leading up to the BFP and only tested once AF was late. Even after I got the BFP I didn't really start feeling symptoms till around 7 weeks or so. And with this pregnancy I've had a bunch of mucus secretions. I didn't have that with the first one. It's more white and solid like than EWCM. hope that helps a bit.
