Moms who CD

I need some help. We want to switch to cloth diapers asap, but I'm not really sure where to get started. Can anyone give me a list of what I will need to start? Or at least point me in the direction of a website with this information?

Daycare used a diaper out of our first pack of baby drys yesterday and LO had diaper rash by the next change. This was all the push we needed to decide to make the switch. Well...that and my mom telling me that there is no way I can CD because it is too much work. She did it, but I won't be able to. So now I have to be successful at it because I am stubborn like that! Any tips and tricks you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

  • I'm hopping over here a little early! I think Green Mountain Diapers has a great site, lots of info and pictures. A lot of ladies also recommend Jillian's Drawers (I think that's the name) as a website to look at.

In my opinion, I would start with a "trial pack" of diapers that a lot of sites sell. That way you can see what you like best before ordering. We personally use a mix of bumGenius 3.0s and prefolds with Thirsties Duo and Bummis Super Whisper Wraps. HTH!

  • Personally we love BumGeniuses (I'm currently working on switching our entire stash over to them)  We have about 8 all in ones and 2 Flip shells with about 6 extra inserts.  But, like I said, I'm working on switching out some other styles to just BG's  We also have a wetbag for the diaper pail and one for each diaper bag.  Plus homemade detergent.

https://www.clothdiaperblog.com/ is a great resource.  also, I like shopping at kellyscloset.com, also a great resource with lots of good information, reviews and perks.

    HTH :)  Good luck!!

  • The EFF board is great for general questions. They have a blog called theecofriendlyfamily.blogspot.com with good info (slightly hard to navigate). CDing has been going great for us. We use a mixture of BG 3.0 OS pockets, BG Organic AIO OS and Fuzzibunz. Love them all.

  • Thanks so much Ambsies. That was a lot of information and I know it had to take some time to put it all together. I am ordering the trial from Jillian's now!

  • You could check out www.diaperpin.com for reviews of different styles.  Also www.cottonbabies.com and www.kellyscloset.com, because they not only sell diapers, but have lots of info like washing, etc.  As someone else mentioned, Jillians Drawers has a sample pack to try out a few different kinds.  That could be nice - anything you don't want gets returned.  I personally like bumgenius for day and kissaluvs for night.  Also have some happy heineys which aren't bad, and fuzzibuns which don't fit quite right on DSs small waist.  Keep in mind that pocket diapers dry quicker than all-in-ones (AIOs).
Other than that - go for it.  It's WAY easier than people say.  We do the wash every 2 days and it's not a big deal.  My day care has never used them before and they think they're pretty easy too.
