I worked at a hotel for 5 years while in college and hotel cribs are disgusting. They don't ever get cleaned, just folded up and put away for the next person and this was at a Marriott. I'd bring my own along and pay to baggage fee.
Ditto... and we were always told to say "we can request it for you but its not a guarantee" that always annoyed me to tell people because I know now that if I were traveling w/ my son and told that I would be POed. I know most of the time you do get it but man- thats annoying
If you ever have to use a hotel crib, make sure you use your own sheets and bring sanitizer. I'd watch my housekeeping department just fold them up and carry them downstairs and never clean them. And we were supposively one the best hotels in my area (LIES). Some hotels don't even have "cribs" they offer pack and plays. These are also never checked for defects. They are really gross... ewww.

We just did this, although we were staying at a Four Seasons. For as much as we were paying to stay there, I'd hope they at least change the sheet, much less clean the thing. It did come with a bumper, and a cloth teething guard for the railing. (DD isn't even close to needing it)
FWIW, it was a very nice sturdy metal crib.
I just think it all depends on where you stay. We are staying at an Embassy Suites in a month and I will be bringing my pack and play based on your posts
