Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How can you be against babywearing?

Someone explain this to me, I do not understand.  Babies like to be carried.  Wearing your baby keeps your hands free. What's not to love?!

Re: How can you be against babywearing?

  • I'm guessing that people that answered "against" just don't personally do it.  I don't.

  • I answered "against" but maybe I misunderstood.  I carry DS around in an Ergo frequently (more so when he was younger and had to be held all the time).  But when I answered, I was thinking about the notion (I think it's an AP idea, at least from what I understand) that you have to wear them like all day to help with the transition from the womb to the world.  I think baby-wearing is a great convenience; but I don't think it's a necessary parenting step.

  • I hold my baby all the time- I am not against baby wearing- I just dont do it. I consider "baby wearing" to be in the moby or something like that when you are out- as opposed to hving your child in a stroller or infant carrier.

Maybe it makes me nervous, I don't know- it's just not something I do- if others do it great, I would just rather my DD be in her stroller.

  • I'm against the idea that if I'm not wearing her (as in putting her in stroller or shopping cart) then I am neglecting her, or not giving her as much affection/attention.

I'm also against the idea that I as a mother must be tied to my baby at all times (like in nursing and baby wearing).

And since baby wearing is (to my knowledge) a big part of attachment parenting, I'm not "against" but it's not a parenting style that I subscribe to.

ETA: I just saw the post below which sparked your question, so yeah in that sense I don't get being against baby wearing. I don't usually baby wear, but I don't care is someone else wants to.

:)  LOL.  We really love it.

  • I should have been more clear on Babywearing ;)  I meant it as using a moby/sleepy wrap type carrier rather than a stroller as well as using them to be close to baby but also be hands free!

  • I hate using my stroller, it's big and bulky and it's only been used twice so far. We wear our baby all the time, mostly in the ring sling, but we have a babyhawk and a Beco as well. So much easier than lugging around the stroller, just stuff the wrap in the diaper bag!
