Giving cereal to a newborn??

Who the h does this? A good friend of mines sister is giving her 2.5 week old cereal because he isn't sleeping a lot at night!

Someone on FB told her to give him more since he was waking up every hour last night.. umm well maybe his stomach was hurting from the cereal!!!!! duh!!

ugh I don't get people sometimes. I don't care what our mothers and grandmothers tell us. Cereal this young is not good for the baby. No wonder why so many people in this country are obese.

No he is not ready. This is the second time I've told her too. Apparently she thinks this is an easy way out, but it's only making it worse.

  • I love how people think this is going to help a baby sleep through the night (which is a ridiculous expectation for a tiny newborn anyway!!). Storebought baby cereal has 15 calories in a tablespoon. 15 whopping calories. Yeah I don't really think that those extra few cals are exactly what's keeping the baby from sleeping through the night. Poor little dude. I almost feel sorry for the baby's mom, it sounds like maybe she doesn't have good support or resources to help her make decisions.
  • I was worried about reading this post as it sounded like you were thinking about doing so.  I thought it kinds odd as most mom's on here would never do that.

I hope she talks to her doc about it and they tell her to stop.  Starting at 4 months is even pushing it.  Is she just mixing it in a bottle?  Someone needs to tell her newborns wake up a lot at night and it is normal!

  • Gosh, I love how people get parenting advice from FACEBOOK.

  • That's just awful :(  I like how she takes advice when it 'makes things easier'.... at least in her mind.
