If you co-sleep, how well does LO sleep?

My DD falls asleep in a bouncer (I know, not the best idea) and then she sleeps with me for most of the night.  She wakes up several times for a sip on the bottle and also she is fussy.

Is this just the way she is?  I mean, I'm snuggling with her, and she's mobile enough to scoot against me if she needs more snuggles.  She can roll both ways, so she can get comfortable.

Is she just a fussy sleeper?  It's not like she tosses and turns all night, I would say she wakes like 3x and I pop the bottle in her mouth or pull her against me/put my arm on her and she's back to sleep.  SOMETIMES she does start crying though, and I have to get up and bounce her for a minute and then lay back down with her (and she's out).

I guess I assumed co-sleeping meant she wouldn't be fussy.

  • I nurse but I would say other than that difference, my son was the same way at 6 months.  He ate a few times a night and on occasion would need a little reassurance that I was there for him.  I never had to get out of bed to calm him though.  I thought he slept pretty well!
  • My DS is younger than yours, but it sounds about the same....We nurse every 3 hours or so and there are times that he will get a little fussy between feedings but he calms right down when I pull him closer to me or kiss his face.  This is a huge improvement for us...he used to have major tummy-issues at night....

  • I think that sounds totally normal.  DD wakes more often than that, but she's a reverse cycler.  As long as she settles back to sleep quickly, that is a good night of sleep IMO.

  • PS LO sleeps in a co-sleeper or a crib for a few hours a few times every week (if I have to stay up late to do laundry or whatever) and he doesn't seem to mind sleeping by himself at all, but he doesn't sleep as long as he does when we are co-sleeping....more like an hour at a stretch rather than three.

  • I have been cosleeping since DS was born and he has been sleeping all through the night since he was 4 months old. He was adopted so we didnt breastfeed but we would just give him his bottle before bed and then off he would go to sleep 14 hours.

Every now and again he would wake up and just toss and suck his thumb (bad habit that we are now dealing with) but never had much of an issue with fussiness luckily.

At around 3 months we noticed sometimes he was getting congested and Pedi suggested we buy a humidifier to sooth his breathing and that seemed to do the trick. We also sleep with our ipod on, DS likes Frank Sinatra.

  • DD started co-sleeping with us when she was around 6 months old.  That was when she decided that her crib was an evil thing not to be tolerated.

She sleeps really great with us.  Every once in a while has problems (like the last 2 nights) with waking up/whimpering/crying...but as soon as she feels me rub her back or something she will usually settle down.

Our household sleeps better co-sleeping than we did when we'd try to have her in the crib and she'd wake up after every 1-2 hours all night.

  • I breastfeed DD and she is up at least 3 times a night to nurse.  Usually she won't fall back asleep unless she nurses... and she is always snuggled against me.

  • DS starts out each night in his pnp, but he usually ends up with me by about 1 am, where he sleeps for the rest of the night.  He sleeps really well in our bed, and has just started skipping his (only) middle-of-the-night feeding and sleeping until about 6:30 am.  He goes to bed at 8:30, so I'm pretty excited about this recent development!  :)
