How many/what layers in a fitted?

I'm working on adding some more fitteds to E's stash, and I think I'm going to make some.  I've got a couple of patterns that I'm looking at, but I'm wondering if those of you who use fitteds had any recommendations about the number/types of layers I should use? Thanks girls. :)

Re: How many/what layers in a fitted?

  • For a toddler, at least 6 layers of fabrics in addition to the outer part of the diaper.
  • Loading the player...
  • I try to make the actual fitted with a wicking inner layer--organic cotton fleece with 2 layers cotton french terry sewn in the soaker area then the outer print--so it dries. Then I leave a pocket to stuff whatever I want into it.

Which is usually an insert with 4-6 layers of cotton french terry.

But you can use anything for the absorbency--I started off using flannel receiving blankets.

  • Anything absorbent will work. I've used flannel, jersey (t-shirts), knits, woven cotton, receiving blankets, terry (although that adds a lot of bulk imo) etc. . . basically anything 100% cotton, hemp, bamboo will work great.

I usually do 3 layers for the outer shell and then a snap in soaker. So they dry faster I do two soakers and sew them together along the top rather than doing all the layers together. I make my soakers 3-4 layers thick so a total of 6-7 layers.
