Local meat farm!! 1.7miles away

I can't believe I have a farm that sells hormone, antibiotic, stress free chicken, eggs, beef and pork that is literally 1.7 miles away.  Google maps NEVER says an alternative way of getting there is WALKING, when I search for directions.  I live in the middle of nowhere. a 4 minute drive and I can have fresh meat... Must talk to dh tonight.

  • I suggest seeing if you can buy a small amount of pork and beef before buying an entire side. Although we like the taste of the beef we got, we are not a fan of it in general. The sirloins are almost entirely bone, the T-bones are extremely fatty (ours was corn finished) and all the cuts were just very small in general due to the breed.

Also, like anything else, price can vary. We have several farms within 20 min of us, but ended up driving about 45 min to get it a little cheaper (also may have been part of our problem though).

Also, flank steak is one of our favorite cuts, and with a side, we only get one. It was delicious, but still.

In the future, we will just be purchasing our grass fed beef/pork/chicken from our local grocery store. It'll come to about $1 more a lb (like we are paying $4 for ground beef, but there ground beef is $3.85, but we also pay $4 for T-bone steaks which are $12/lb but we rarely eat steak anyway.)

    Anyway....just something to think about.

  • Good tip. It sounds as though they offer the method of buying smaller portions rather than whole or halves.  I'm going to call them to see what they have to offer...
