A couple EC questions

DD poops every three days and she usually needs my help doing it.  I lay her on the changing table, pull her legs to her tummy and help her to push.  I know when she is needing to go, so the last two times I put her on the potty.  She went, but she didn't like it at all.  However, when she goes on the changing pad, she doesn't like it either.  She always has a hard time going.  So, my question is do I keep putting her on the potty even though she doesn't like it, hoping her bowels adjust to what she eats?  Or let her go on the pad where she is probably more comfortable?  I want her experience on the potty to be a happy one.

Also, would it make sense to move the changing pad in the bathroom, so she knows that's where elimination happens?  She will often go right when I am changing her.

Thanks!!!

Re: A couple EC questions

  • This is exactly why we started EC.

After starting solids and eliminating all the foods that she's sensitive to her poops changed drastically.  She wouldn't go w/o significant help.  I bought the potty and put her on and she started using it and went back to pooping almost daily.

She could just keep going on the pad with you cueing her, or you could move the pad onto a potty, or you could just try and make the potty pleasant.  Keep smiling and cueing, rub her back, have some special toys and board books in a little basket for her that are just for pottying, put the potty in front of a mirror.  Becca lights up when she sees it now and poops like clockwork, right after breakfast, with little effort.

How were you able to tell which foods made it hard for her to go?  Did you just feed her the same thing for a week, maybe?

I put her on to go poop this morning and she cried through the whole thing.  She was mad at me all morning and had a hard time going down for her first nap.  I think I am going to just stick to peeing on the potty.
