would it be impolite

to register for cloth diapers? I would never register for them except that I want people to be able to see that we plan to cloth diaper. Every shower I go to someone gets the mama a package of disposables and I just want to make sure no one does that for me, without having to tell anyone... is this ok?

Re: would it be impolite

  • Why would it be impolite?

I registered for them. No one except my parents and in-laws bought from the list, though, lol! However, it did set the tone for our expectations and we did not receive ONE disposable. (I got some sposie wipes, but only two packages.)

I would recommend registering on a site that has free shipping. I registered with Jillian's Drawers, b/c I thought I wanted to use their trial program, but once I decided against that, the fact that their registry was cumbersome and they never had discounts or free shipping deterred a lot of people.

  • I don't think it's impolite.  A lot of people do bring disposables to showers and I think it's a good way to let them know you're not doing disposables, even if people do not buy the CDs.  I totally don't think it's any different than registering for clothing, swaddling blankets, or a booger sucker - it's a baby item you want & need.

  • Well, I've never seen someone register for disposables, so I assumed cloth diapers would fall under the same no-no. But I don't see any other way to tell people no disposables (without really tell them).

That's a good idea to register on a specific site for them. I didn't even think of that, I was just going to put a few prefolds on the bru registry. But why not go all in right? Thanks for the advice!

p.s. how are you feeling?! Your little one is nice and cozy in there huh?

  • I think it's a good idea.  I registered at kellyscloset.com.  It was a pretty easy process and did keep us from getting disposables.  We only got one package and it was from a coworker.  Plus, another coworker bought us two Bumgeniouses, so that was a major added bonus!
  • Oh I've seen disposables on registries before - if people have a preference on things like Huggies vs. Pampers vs. Chlorine free ones like Earth's Best or something.

I don't think its strange at all - what better way to let people know. Plus, what a great gift they would be!

  • That's what we did for the exact same reason. I actually got a few, so you never know.

  • Some people have CD showers - they register for CDs, and some even request that everyone bring a CD, either as their gift or in addition (guest can pick).
