WOW! I thought that was really interesting. We have a minivan since we have LO#2 on the way and hope to have more. I just think of all the comments on the other boards where people are asking which SUV should they get. . . cuz their NEVER gonna be seen in a minivan. It always make me wonder if they even look up safety rating, side curtain airbags, etc.

I have a 2005 Ford Expedition. It has side curtain airbags and a 5-star crash test rating from the NHTSA (it also has Stabilitrac RSC (roll stability control), ABS, and LATCH connectors). I did not get it because I am "NEVER gonna be seen in a minivan" - I got it because that is what DH and I felt was the best choice for our family. In fact, I drove a Ford Windstar minivan in high school.
I read the article, and it made some good points. I am sure there are a ton of people who buy a SUV because it is big, assuming it will be safer. But I practice defensive driving no matter what vehicle I am in - and it has saved my butt more times than I care to think about.
Just because we didn't choose a minivan doesn't mean we are ignorant, or unconcerned about our family's safety - which is what your post implied. If you didn't mean it like that, fine. But that's how it sounded.

i didn't take her post to mean sweeping generalizations about all SUV drivers, just particular posts on the nest where it's obvious the OP hasn't looked at any ratings. i don't know why people consult the nest about car purchases anyway. **shrug**

Like I said, she may not have meant it like that, but that's how I read it. I may be being a little sensitive. If so, apologies.

I can't read it, though. The long, skinny column is trying my patience.
