How Important is an Organic Crib Mattress?

Hi Ladies, can anyone weight in on why this would be preferred?  FWIW, my mom is making my crib sheets and none of them will be from organic cotton. 

I am trying to decide between the Sealy Naturals Organic Cotton Crib Mattres, Sealy Baby Posturepedic Crib Mattress, or the Sealy Perfect Rest Crib Mattress.  All are within $20 of each other on Overstock.com and all received 5 stars (best rating).  The Posturepedic is $20 more than the other 2.

I suspect most board regulars have more information on this than me, but my understanding is that the theory is that the chemicals in the non-organic mattress, and perhaps the fire retarding of the mattress are breathed in by the baby and cause sids.  

That is one (but not the only) explanation of why babies do better face up when they sleep.  Just the few inches away from the mattress lessen the chemicals the baby breathes.  However, even on their backs, the baby breathes the off-gassing chemicals in and it damages the central nervous system and may cause death.

I agree with pp. I did A LOT of research and ended up bedsharing and we have a memory foam (which is high in chemicals) and she seems fine... There is something called a mattress wrap- supposed to eliminate off-gas and you can use a regular mattress. might want to check that out?
