anyone know if raspberries can be planted along with strawberries?

We have both raspberry and strawberry plants but for some reason I thought they cannot be planted together. Am I right?

  • I would not mix them - they grow very differently.

  • Raspberries grow on canes and have "thorns". image

Strawberries are lower to the ground and put out runners to spread.

  • thank you....not sure where to plant mine now!
  • I wouldn't. Raspberries are thorny and would make picking the strawberries (which are low-growing) a pain.

Strawberries like lots of sun, whereas raspberries will grow in part sun- I have a raspberry bush near the back of my yard where there are a bunch of honeysuckle growing, and it thrives.

    Thanks for the tip :-)

  • As long as your raspberries aren't shading your strawberries you should be fine.
