Feeling the kick question

Hey all, as you know from my sig my DW is carrying twins, and she's almost 23 weeks and she hasn't really felt them move yet. When did you first feel them kick/move? And how consistent was it after that?

I know everyone is different, but I figured I'd throw the question out there.
Thanks!

Re: Feeling the kick question

  • I didn't feel mine move hardly at all until that point, I wouldn't worry just yet. I thought for sure I'd have felt 3 babies by then...but once I could feel them more, they could be felt from the outside almost immediately.

  • I started feeling my twins around 18 or 19w but no one else could.  Within the last few days, DH has been able to feel them from the outside.  That said, the placement of their placenta(s) makes a huge difference.  I feel A a lot but I can't feel baby B very often because she has an anterior placenta.  I feel her more if she kicks or punches to the side.

Your wife may be feeling them but she doesn't know it's the babies quite yet (especially if this is her 1st pg).  Regardless, I don't think it's unusual to not feel them until later.  As they get bigger, she'll definitely feel them.  :)

  • I could feel the periodic flutters at 13 weeks.  But this is not my first pregnancy.  By 17 weeks I could feel them a lot and people started to be able to feel them from the outside.  I'm told that twins are often felt earlier.  And if you've been pregnant before you can probably feel them earlier.  Like pp said it depends on where there are and also where the placenta is.  I've also heard that heavier women feel them later but I don't know how true that is.

  • I just started feeling my LO's this week.  I have to really pay close attention too.  I mostly feel them at night when I am lying in bed very still.

  • oh yeah, i forgot the part about gas. i think what i thought was gas for a long time was really baby movement. it actually feels exactly the same. so much that after i had the boys, i'd have gas and think it was a baby moving. and then remember they were on the outside now. :P

  • I felt gassy bubbles about 15-16w, my first kick at 19, and DH felt from the outside about 21w.  Now at 24, I can see/feel from the outside several times a day, and I love it. Big Smile  They get pretty squirmy in the evening when I'm sitting on the couch relaxing.
