My friend is due the same day as I am or a few days before and she just found out she's having a boy! It must've been VERY obvious, lol.
I know I should be patient, but I can't wait to find out if the baby is a girl or a boy. We said we'd wait for that so we can start making all our plans - nursery, names, making purchases, etc. My next OB appointment is May 6th, but I'm not sure if they'll do an u/s. The anatomy u/s at the perinatal center is scheduled for May 24th, but the nurse that made my appointment was a little rude. When I asked her if we would find out the gender during that ultrasound, she said (with attitude) that that was not the purpose of the ultrasound, but if they happen to see what it is, then they'll let me know.
Re: gender at 13 weeks!
I know some girls have found out really early...I think JessNJorge was told "boy" at around that time and then later it was confirmed at 18 weeks or so. But be careful! At that stage, the girl parts and boy parts still look very, very similar. Maybe there are some really good techs who can tell the difference, but I think there's even a website that shows you examples of boys and girls at 12-14ish weeks and they look the same. This kind of explains it: https://www.babycenter.com.my/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/scans/sexbyultrasoundexpert/
Anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask early on!
Just try not to get too set on one thing too early in case a later ultrasound shows something different.
this! we found out at 17 weeks that mady was a girl...13 wks seems really early!
Jen - that's what my u/s tech mentioned at my last u/s. At this point, the boy/girl parts look too similar to tell for sure. But, I guess it must've been very obvious for my friend, like Jess.
Jess - I think that's what irked me the most, her attitude. It's not like I asked if that was the point of the u/s. I just wanted to know if it was during that particular scan that they would be able to tell the sex.
I'll just be patient and wait - by May 6th, I'll be 16 weeks and by the 24th, I'll be almost 20 weeks. So, I should definitely know by then. It's just that since she found out so early and posted on FB, then now I'm getting texts and messages from friends asking me if I know the sex yet.
From what I've heard it's easier to tell if its a boy earlier. We didn't find out until our anatomy u/s either. I don't remember exactly how far along I was. I think 13 weeks is too early and it would be a guess anyway, so you really wouldn't have a clear answer. I remember i was so impatient and dying to find out!
At my friend's 12 wk u/s, the tech guestimated also that it was 2 boys, but of course wasn't 100% confirmed until 16 or 18 wks. Like pp said, I think it is easier w/ boys.

Ooh! Then, maybe it is a girl since they couldn't tell at my last u/s (I'm J/K, I know that sounds crazy). I can't believe that when I was younger I thought I'd wait for it to be a surprise. Yeah, right! Like Leanna, I'm dying to find out and part of me wants to be right about this feeling I have that it's a girl - not because I want one gender more than the other. But, I just want to be right since all my dreams have been about a girl and I keep daydreaming about a girl.
With Quinn, our u/s tech at our NT scan said it looked like we were having a boy but not to go out and buy anything yet. It was confirmed at 18 weeks.
This time, our u/s tech wouldn't even look or venture a guess per their policy, which we were fine with. We found out boy at 20 weeks. FWIW- I've thought this baby was a girl from the minute we found out we were pregnant. All of my baby dreams had a girl, I was online window shopping for girl stuff, and was totally convinced we were having a girl ... until we found out we were having another boy ;-)
I think at 16 weeks you might have a chance of finding out - but like the others said, I wouldn't put too much stock in what the tech says until after the 20 week appt. And I really hope you are right!!!
Wow that tech was rude!
with DS we found out at 14 weeks that it was a boy, It was VERY Obvious! I have tried to find out the sex of this baby twice and the baby does not want to cooperate. People keep on telling me that its probably a girl because boys are easy to see but I seriously doubt its a girl. I think we might be having another boy. I called the ultrasound school in Miami that does the free ultrasounds but they are not taking any new patients until June so I guess I am going to have to wait until I am 22 weeks to find out =(
Agree 100%! A friend of ours came out on FB that she is having a girl at about 13 weeks and sure, she might be right...but as far as I'm concerned it can go either way since it is still too early to tell on US!
