I'll likely be delivering at Mercy and I'm getting worried/nervous about whether or not I made the right choice in hospital. Anyone here deliver at Mercy? Pros, cons, stories? I'd love to hear them! Thank you in advance!
I used to work for docs that delivered at Mercy. I always heard great things from coworkers and patients. I live in HarCo and was not comfortable being that far away, but I would have considered it if I lived closer.
Mercy is a really good hospital. I was born there and know people that still work there. I am closer to St. joseph's medical center so i am going there.
I haven't given birth there, but it's our back up hospital (planning a home birth). We did take the tour and I've talked with lots of people who have delivered there as well as our child birth instructor who has been a doula there several times for births. I've only heard positive things. Dr. Atlas has a great reputation. The major benefit of Mercy is they are natural friendly! If you want a water birth- request the room at the end of the hall - room 9 I believe or just tell them you want to do a water birth and they'll put you in that room- it has the big tub. That's what I know- hope it helps some!
I delivered both of my boys at Mercy 7 & 9 years ago and found it to be a good experience. I loved my doctor and the nursing staff was great. It is a teaching hospital so there will be residents checking you. I did not particularly care for one of the residents so I just stood my ground with her and everything was fine! Best wishes
Although I cannot offer any advice this time as I myself am also expecting at Mercy I do have the same concerns as I am not the least bit familiar with this hospital. I am also 10 weeks and 5 days pregnant if you would like a friend to talk to I know I would love one!
Talk to you soon I hope!
Take Care,
Amanda

Thank you all so much! You've put my fears at ease. I'm going to speak to my OB and see what her birth philosophy is like, I really want to be as intervention free as possible, I may switch to a midwife who also delivers at Mercy.
When we were still TTC I switched to an OBGYN practice associated with Mercy because I had heard good things about their L&D, but now I start to second guess, of course. I've got to learn to relax!
My friend delivered last summer at Mercy with Kathy Sloan's group of midwives. She had a waterbirth and an otherwise great experience. (She didn't arrive at the hospital until she was 9cm so she steered clear of many interventions that way). She also used Jessica Groves as her doula and I highly recommend her. (I used her for my Bradley childbirth classes, which were amazing, very informative and worth every penny)!

I'm planning to deliver there with Kathy Slone too...and a water birth. We have not been on the tour yet, but like the rest of these ladies I have heard nothing but good things! We are excited!
Sorry I know that this is kind of late in relation to your post but I am a paramedic for the BCFD and I have taken multiple OB patients to Mercy and they have been very pleased with their experience there. I also have several friends that have nothing but good things to say. If you are a first-time mom of course its natural to be nervous, just take a deep breath in and say Woosaaaaahhhhh!!!!! LoL. I myself am 35 weeks and I plan on delivering at mercy this go round with my daughter even though my son was born at Sinai. It will be a wonderful experience for you....the nursing staff is awesome!!!
