If you are comfy, it's fine. I'm not a back sleeper, but I noticed later on -- around 28 weeks or so, if I laid on my back on the couch it was uncomfortable. So I stopped. Do it till it's not comfy.
I stopped when my body told me to and it was no longer comfortable. That was within the last week. I cringe in pain when I wake up if I have slept on my back.
I still am and per my doc I never have to stop unless it's uncomfortable.
I was a stomach sleeper but obviously that I can't do. She said sleep in whatever position your most comfortable and when it's not possible anymore your body will tell you.

Ditto what some other people said. You will know when it hurts you or isn't comfortable anymore. My DR said until then, it is entirely safe to sleep on your back. I sometimes have to roll on my back just to relieve pressure from sleeping on my right side so much. After a little while it gets uncomfortable, then I just switch back to my side.

When I woke up the last couple of days I have been on my back and have been uncomfortable. I think it may finally be time for me to stop sleeping on my back.

I still sleep on my back every night. My Dr. said not to worry, your body will wake you up if it becomes a problem. I do use a couple of pillows so I'm slightly elevated and not flat on my back.

I still wake up on my back. I always start out on my side (left usually) but my hips get achy and I end up rolling on my back.
Me too. My hip goes numb as well.
The reason for not sleeping on your back is that the pressure from the weight of the baby/uterus on your major veins/arteries limits bloodflow to the lower parts of your body.
I heard that sleeping on your back is ok but once you get about 27 weeks it may be hard. They say the uterus gets heavy and when you sleep on your back your uterus lays on a major part of your spine and stops your breathing. My baby book said you will wake up gasping for air if that happens.

You will know when that time comes!
